A couple nights ago Dad and I were going through a box of knives in the basement and he "found" this Case Coke Bottle. This has been his knife for some time and by the tang stamp should be a 65-69 knife. Actually this one was made after 67 since I am sure it has Delrin rather than bone. Sadly it had sat in the box long enough that some rust and corrosion had reared it ugly head and I brought it home to clean it up. After much handwork it is to the point you see it now. On the back of the main blade is the worse spot and I was unable to work out all the stain tho you can see in the pick I got almost all of the rust out leaving just a stain in a place. The pen blade was much better and it along with the rest of the knife got a light once over with Flitz. There wasn't any patina on the blade so I felt a polish would help things out. Of course Pop wouldn't have me do this without some form of payment...lol. The bottom picture shows my fee, he gave me a nice older Craftsman and a very nice 1980 Elk Horn from Pacific Cutlery. I will give it back to him tonight when I head over to have dinner with him...leftover chili that I made two nights ago...should be about perfect tonight!

Looks like ya did a good job on her.... I bet your Dad will be surprised and happy.

The little Craftsman is very nice as well. Obviously a user there is some blade loss on the sheepsfoot blade from sharpening and the shield shows a good bit of wear. It has the same problems with some pitting that needs touched up and cleaned out but it is going to make for a very nice EDC when it goes into rotation.

That's cool,he'll love it ! But that Case knife,it's a Coke Bottle pattern ??
I'm not so sure on that one.

It's hard to see in the pic but it is a swell center knife, called that as well as being called a half whittler. The 08 pattern was originally called a coke bottle tho this would be a small coke bottle pattern.

Thanks for that info,I had no idea.

Well...Case doesn't list anything as a coke bottle, they call the 08 a half-whittler. Other sites xall the pattern by other names. I will say half or 2 blade whittler is the best name for the pattern. To me it wasn't the name that was important in the thread...it was doing something nice for my dad, tho I didn't mean to upset the faithful...:D

I've seen the case 25 pattern (3'' swell center) referred to as a small coke bottle.

Didn't upset me, I'm learnin new stuff everyday.... Hope it didn't come across the wrong way. I know just enough to confuse myself
Your Dads gonna be very surprised when he sees it
There is a lot of satisfaction in bringin an old knife back to life again, even better when it has a family history....

I am well pleased--:)needless to say.

And the chili was great--had the last today for lunch:).

Blackened chicken, baked sweet potatoes, green beans with ham hock tonight....

The 2 blade Craftsman is really cleaning up nicely as well, it has very good snap to the blades which appear to be carbon steel rather than stainless. Model number on it is 95021.

A folksy welcome from me too, GLV.
Like Mike said, its good to see new members on our virtual front porch, so pull up a chair, and suit yourself.

:)Thank you gentlemen.

I am knife ignorant, but do enjoy looking at the beautiful pictures, and reading about them.

Anybody, that carries knives, and knows how to use 'em, is no knife ignorant in my eyes.
Now being a knife nut is an entirely different story:D
