Hi! My first time posting but found this guy in a leather shop and was trying to find more info. I know it's a 1986 Gunstock with white bone handles and two blades but I don't know what the W stands for. Any clues?

Sorry I can't help directly, but, I have a 1980 pen that has an A on it for "Appaloosa" horse bone. I may be wrong but perhaps It's like mine, indicative of the type of material used.

Thanks. I was thinking it might be a V which would be antique bone. It's so weird. I usually buy "modern" blades i.e. Zero Tolerance and Spydies, but now I'm loving traditional. Must be my age catching up to me.

AFAIK W stands for wharncliff blade, which is obviously not the issue here, never heard of V abbreviation. I'm sure some of the experts will come up with the coerect answer to this.

I recently made the transition to traditionals as well. I was getting bored with the moderns. They all look the same.....boring. Traditionals are much more fun.

I'm pretty sure your "W" prefix stands for white bone - must have been from a set or a special run. OH

I agree with the W standing for white bone also the tang stamp appears to be for a 1986 build date. Nice find.

Hmmm that's my exact knife. I was also looking at another forum and it was about a 1986 Comet knife. The members there said the Comet knife (made in 1986) which also has the "W" marking was actually a Frost Cutlery knife. That Frost was making the knife for Case on some patterns. So question....is this an original Case or a knife made by Frost for Case?

If you really want to know the details of your Case knife, go over to AAPK (where the above link by JC57 takes you) and find Knifeaholic - he is a regular there. He is known as Chiofinc (or something like that here) but doesn't post here much; his name is Steve Pfeiffer - he is the man when it comes to Case - he wrote the book! OH

Solid advice right there. I'll bet Steve would have an answer in no time. I believe cilohaefink is Steve's username here on Bladeforums. Knifeaholic spelled backwards.

Done and done. Just waiting for a response. Strangely enough I did find this on ebay.
