I'm a novice when it comes to Case knives. Having seen pictures of beautiful vintage Case knives on the forum, I decided I wanted one and picked up a current Humpback Whittler a little over a year ago. I was so disappointed with the knife that I returned it to Case and they replaced it. That being said it left a sour taste in my mouth and I never really took a liking to the knife.

Fast forward, I've been looking at Case knives again but haven't found one I that I couldn't live without. Then last night I came across a 9 dot '71 6332 that appeared to be mint and never used. I didn't buy it and wonder if I made a mistake?

I'd like to know how the quality of the 70's vintage Case knives is? Are they sought after like the '40 to '60's knives are? I'm a user and not a collector, so this knife would end up seeing pocket time, and I'm wondering how the blade steel on these knives is? Also is there anything special I'd have to do to keep it looking nice, or can I anticipate that it will develop a patina over time? Thanks for your help.

IMO the Case QC of the 70s was pretty good. The steel should be carbon, the standard CV. Anticipate it getting a patina, keep it oiled or with a thin layer of chapstick on the blades, and go get it if possible. I think it's worth it!

Thanks for the info. I'm going to stop after work and pick it up.
