When looking for a pattern with jigged scales is it bone only or do you accept Delrin as part of the traditional handle material catalogue?

I accept jigged delrin myself. I'm too cheap to pay the going price for stag or bone on the old Cases.

"traditional handle material catalogue? ??????????????????????? Can you be more specific? Are you asking if anyone considers jigged delrin to be traditional?

In Case's 'case' (;)); their traditional patterns go back at least 50 years in Delrin, and even further if you include the other 'composition' scales they put on some knives as far back as the WWII era (at least). In that period, they produced many patterns with what was called 'gum fuddy' scales (black rubber-based composition, with jigging). Their use of the synthetic materials was an effort to conserve other 'natural' materials like bone & wood for the war effort. In that respect, it seems not just 'traditional', but a very real part of American history.

So, with that in mind, I'd definitely consider Delrin to be a true attribute of traditional knives.

Edit:
I think I've sometimes seen 'traditional knife' defined here, at least in part, by whether one would expect to see their own Grandfather using it. Delrin has enough history & longevity in traditional knives, that it's entirely possible some of our grandparents did use knives handled in it, and probably didn't give it any thought. There's a very 'practical' character to Delrin, and I think that would've suited earlier generations just fine.

What Im asking is, do the collectors of Traditional knives consider it a traditional material or a sub-type to be avoided in lieu of bone, stag or other natural materials.

Then you may disregard my response. I'm an accumulator rather than a collector.

I'd say it is traditional and collectible. Two of my favorite knives in my collection are Case 1970, Case 10-dot Delrin. Beautiful.

Ditto.
I think it's traditional, but whether it is collectable or not, I am not qualified to opine. I amass, rather than collect.

I like the Brown Delrin 'jigged' handle on my CASE Slimline Trapper. Oddly enough, it makes it look a lot older than it actualy is, so that makes it Traditional:D

I like delrin a lot actually, its very versatile and easy to buff up if you ever scratch it in your pocket with keys or whatever.
that being said, you can do some cool stuff with delrin, i think alan davis may have pioneered the filing.
I posted this in another thread, but id like to get it out more. If you ever get bored with your delrin handles, i can modify them and give them a peak and trough look. Just pay for shipping ill do the rest:D

I think Delrin most certainly is collectable.... ok, take for instance an early Schrade Walden with Jigged Delrin, or a Camillus with the same?...I consider these Collectable, Collecting rules are set by who?.... so there are no rules...the collector collects what he or she likes, and what may be also in demand by others ( in most cases ), check out the Schrade Forum, and then come back to me and tell me its not collectable after seeing some of the guys collections
