I have a Case tiny trapper, was purchased by my dad some time ago. He passed away last year, and I cannot find the box, although we both kept most of our case boxes, or tried to. Looks like smooth green bone to me, but the tang stamp has the "ex" prefix for exotic. I have tried to find the same knife somewhere on the web but cannot, and I would like to know what this handle is. Knife tank stamp is EX2154, several pictures attached. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Wade

Pretty sure that's smooth green ostrich bone. They did some of those in 2007, which I think is 3 dots.

Thanks Eric. I'm pretty sure it's 2007, hard to tell between the Case 2007 or 2017 decade on small knife tank. Pretty sure if was at least ten years ago when it was purchased so it's 2007 I think for sure. I did find an old add for a tiny trapper for sale at Worthpoint that was smooth green ostrich bone after reading your post, but it had a 62154 tank stamp so I don't know. You never know if the add description was accurate, there was a box but no picture of the box info. It was scrolled bolstered and serialized, otherwise looked close. Case is not always consistent when the bone is from other than cattle I know it could be 6 or EX. I may be able to find the box somewhere in storage bin.

I have a giraffe bone handled Case mini copperlock with the ex tang stamp, may be the only one I have that I can remember. The knife looks like it is plain old smooth green bone, but the EX kind of makes that impossible!

Yours was probably offered by Shepherd Hills back then. He had both the smooth bolster version and a more limited scrolled bolster version. Both were EX2154's. Here's a shot of the smooth bolster knife:

Eric,
That is the knife! Thank you very much. With that I was able to Google a Shepherd Hills Cutlery auction site where they auctioned off the exact same knife, and stated there were 250 made in 2007, and confirmed the EX tang stamp. I appreciate that I would have never guessed Ostrich bone in a hundred years.

Wade I was happy to help! From the looks of it I figured it either had to be ostrich or camel. I really enjoy tracking down mystery knives, thanks for the opportunity!
