1974 6269 with custom covers/file work?
6 =Bone Stag, Delrin or laminated wood
8 = Genuine Pearl, Abalone, or Paua

Hi Allen,

It is indeed a small half congress pattern. I didn’t look at all pics but if it has 6 dots it would have been made in 1974. The fact that it is marked 6269 tells me it was originally handled in either bone or delrin. Quite a few of them had delrin handles. I had one and skinned many a squirrel with it. I have seen quite a few delrin knives over the years that had been customized and rehandled in stag. Someone has obviously put a lot of time in this little knife as is evident by all of the fancy firework. That’s my opinion. It has been rehandled and customized. It’s a beautiful little knife.

Thank you. Y’all think it is done by an individual or something like painted pony?

That’s pretty cool! I have a custom Case that looks like the handle was originally solid mother of pearl, and it has a wedge of Abalone installed in the middle of both sides. Pretty cool and one of a kind from what I can tell. Won it on eBay!

The fact the shield was saved and included in the new handle is a nice touch. So far as I know, Painted Pony didn't do that; I have a couple of their customizations ('39 pattern Case Sowbelly), and they don't include the Case shield. Case might frown on custom resellers doing that, as the trademark shield might imply Case did the custom work.

So, I'd bet the customization was done by an individual, and talented at that. That's a nice knife.

Going around to the bigger knife shows, there is always 1-2 tables with guys advertising that they can customize a knife for you. New handles in whatever you want, filework out the wazoo, and all done to a very high quality. I would guess this is the case with this knife. Someone took their favorite old time Case with cracked or unattractive delrin handles, and paid for an upgrade.
