I bought a case knife for my father for Christmas this year but I’m not able to find out any information about it. The tang stamp is SC6240.

My dad is a huge Bama fan and he loved Bear Bryant. I have a friend who is also a huge Bama fan and he helped me get the knife from a collector.
The knife looks legitimate to me but I’m not an expert on case knives. I have bought a case knife for my dad’s Christmas present for the last 25 years but this is the first time I’ve gone through a collector

I appreciate any information. Thank you
I’m no expert by far but I do know sometimes Case makes collectible runs of knives that can be devious to track down. I assume there’s someone out there who collects and knows every in and out of the “Bear Bryant” series and hopefully they will chime in.

That being said, I did a cursory internet search and see many examples throughout the years where case did similar etchings and collectibles for the same person. There’s examples from numerous sellers, auctions and websites. So, as an average Case enjoyer, I would think it’s legitimate

It’s a Dogleg Trapper but the SC designation doesn’t seem to fit the blades. SC is supposed to designate Scissors which this knife doesn’t have.

SP designates a Spey blade which this knife does have.

The SC might designate “Second Cut” Burnt White Bone.
Think we have a winner.

Thanks for the replies. This has been a real head scratcher for me. I have looked for another knife like that all over the internet and haven’t found one. I never found second cut anywhere either. Why is it necessary to put that on the tang stamp? I wasn’t able to find out anything about numbered bolsters either. It’s a beautiful knife. Hard to believe it’s 30 years old.
You guys are a wealth of knowledge! Thanks for sharing some of it with me.

Sometimes they number the bolsters on a limited edition series of knife so you know it's say the 500th knife out of 1000 or whatever it happens to be.
It doesn't pertain to anything else but that, and there may be no record of how many were made or when.
Jim parker owned Case for awhile back in the 80's or something and was really big on making knives as collectable chachki's, so there was a lot of stuff like this being made in that time.

Hickory n steel made me dig a little deeper. I believe the knife was made in 1995. That’s the first year of the limited editions. The tang stamp was tricky to find, but it indicates 1995. From what I understand, Case was bought from Parker in 1993.
Thanks for your replies everyone.
