I know the first number on a Case knife represents handle type.....2nd number is the number of blades. Is there any place to see or find out the knife patterns for the last 2 or 3 numbers? In other words, Case XX 62048 ....what pattern is the 048?

The last two are generally just the pattern itself...for example a 6233, and a 6333 are both bone handled (or delrin) 33 patterns one with 2 blades the other with 3.

What Durwood said. Also, be a bit careful, if you are going to collect all years of Case. They sometimes retired a pattern, then assigned the pattern number to a totally different pattern, so it pays to find a good book on them.

Both Bernard Levine's Guide, (you should try to find the 4th Edition if interested), and Jim Parker's Guide, (Volume 7 just out), show pretty good information about.....Pattern numbers....Pattern shapes....and Pattern names. :)

As Bob said, there are some "Watchouts" however. :(

There is only one area of warning if you start collecting the older knives- particularly Testeds. They don't often carry pattern numbers. I've a Tested regular jack sitting on my desk that only a largish amount of searching through LG4 identified as an unmarked 6231.

Everybody could do it. :D

For such an elaborate numbering system as Case has, I have seen some real "curve balls"..... some probably aftermarket .......making it a bit harder to get a "hit" on every knife, as it seems we might be able to do.
