This is what I said in the thread about best knife related experience and worst experience for 2024
I then looked through my several other high end Black Water Buffalo Cases , some with the S35VN blade alloy (so in my mind of ALL the knives Case is pushing out one would think they would want these to be as nice as possible ) one of the ones that really knocked me back was the Case Sod Busted in Black Water Buffalo with the S35VN .
By actual measurement the end of one of the scales was tapered/ground down for quite a ways to < 2mm and right across the handle on the same end the other scale is 4.5mm thick as is nearly all of the rest of the scales on both sides so this "holiday" really stands out. And I just noticed on the other end of the handle up near the pivot one very-end of the scale is sharply rounded/angled over and the other scale near the pivot end just looks like your normal example of a Case Sod Buster.
Again the contrast is just cockeyed .
There are many other examples I have of this kind of over enthusiastic "polishing" but you get the picture.
I WANT TO CONCLUDE WITH :
This Black Water Buffalo Case Mini Trapper with S35VN alloy Is an IMPORTANT knife for me and I dig the hell out of it.
It is one of my very favorite Knives !
It is just fine and a little work of art so
THANK YOU CASE KNIFE WORKERS !
What has been bugging me is I pulled out my Case Mini Trapper mentioned above and it WAS/IS A NICE PIECE OF JEWELRY AND NO PROBLEMS.Low point = my several Case Knives (which could be included in the high point category at the same time if it were not for the REX121). The low comes from getting an upper end Case with say Black Water Buffalo nicely jigged and polished scales and then seeing how LITERALLY COCKEYED and lopsided the thicknessing of the scales are from one side to the other. I mean even taking into account the inconsistent nature of this natural material it is like the worker (I hesitate to use the word crafts person) momentarily fell asleep against the grinding / buffing wheel. I mean how else could they have done that to the knife unless they had their eyes shut ! ! !
Still though the combination of say, a mini trapper Case pattern with S35VN steel and the one Wharncliffe blade and the other BEAUTIFUL Case clip blade in jigged black water buffalo is an IMPORTANT knife for me and I dig the hell out of it.
I would like to say to the workers at Case : these knives are a form of jewelry ; they are not like tent stake pegs cut from a branch.
WAKE UP.
