I obtained a nice knife, one I didn't really research until after I bought it. It is a CASE 087PE. It is 3 3/8" closed. Anyway, I really like the pattern. Stamp indicates 1965-69. From what I understand, PE means there was a switch of the blades and this was an alternate offering. The back is much prettier than the front. Never used, but was stored poorly, and got dinged around a little, with a little tarnish developing. Something funky about the back center pin. Best snap I've ever had in a knife. Could be a favorite for the pocket.

Great looking knife, Hal and that is a nice size and pattern. I carry an "80" pretty regularly of late. (Same handle shape, only larger and a whittller configuration.)

I like that one!

That has always been one of Case's nices medium size carry knves.

The PE stands for spay and pen secondary blades. The used the second letters because they could not fit SP PE on the tang....and if they used the first letters they could end up with combinations that duuplicated letters like SS for sheepfoot spay so the convention was to (usually) use the second letter for each of the words sheepfoot, spay, pen, and punch.

That's some great info, knifeaholic. Thanks for sharing that!

Nice looking knife, Hal. 3 3/8" is still hefty enough for regular use, but makes a nice unobtrusive package.
That little dingus on the rivet is a "rag" left when the rivet was spun. I have removed them with a dental chisel, but you run the risk of chipping the bone. See if you can get a tool under it, and bend it up without levering on the bone. Then you can fatigue it to snap off.
A neat and better way; if you have a hole punch that just fits over the rivet, you can rotate it till it cuts off the soft metal. Does a neat, less risky job.

That sure is a nice one.
Looks like a good user, and its begging for pocket time and use.

Thanks for the nice comments. It is spending it's first Saturday in the pocket of my camo shorts cargo pocket. The pocket with velcro closers. I have a lot of nice unused knives, but this one is not one of them.

Charlie - You were right. That little shard was a lot smaller than I thought, thin and real flat, I scored it with the side of a 36OT punch, and pried it straight up. It broke loose right on the side of the rivit. It was wafer thin. Great advice. I feared it was thicker and deeper. Knife looks much better.

Good catch, nice red bone too, I like the blade combo also.

Nice colour variation there, I actually like it if 2 sides of a knife have different shades&textures, lends character and individuality.

Then I have a handful of knives you'd really enjoy, William! ;)

A little clarification here on my cutlery medical procedure. I only scored the rivit rag with the side of a punch blade, and pried it upwards with a tiny flat head screwdriver, made for eyeglass screws. I wanted all to know I am indeed a little dumb :o at times, but not stupid. :D

That is a really nice pocketknife you have there. I have a 32087 that I enjoy using. Rides really nice in the pocket. Enjoy it. I know I would.;)

The operation was a success!
(No punches were harmed in the improvement of this knife!)
