Case knives and interesting colors?

Is there any rhyme or reason with Case and their release of certain scale colors with their knives? For example, I've been looking for a pretty Trapper or Trapperlock and will see a picture of one on Google images but then when I try to track one down there are none anywhere to be found.
Do they only release certain knives to Case Collectors Club members or something?

They change scale colors over different years and the patterns have been made for a long time. So some are not current production you are finding in your search. Try eBay. I was able to get a Case that was only made in 2010 new in box that way. Or when you google for images restrict it to ones in the last year to give you a better chance to find what you are seeing.

Check Case's website for their dealer locator, as well. I have found New Old Stock knives from 2009 and 2010 because they hung around in a display at a locally owned hardware store.

I found my NOS chestnut bone CV swayback jack at a dealer late last year.

Thanks. That's a good idea for sure, as I had much rather handle a knife in person and check it out for fit & finish before purchasing it anyway.

Very good idea.... but for me non of the knife stores cary Case but there is one hardware store that does 20mi away. After that one store its 60-120 miles to get to a Case dealer. So good luck and I hope you have a local shop that carries a good selection.

What specific handle material/color and pattern are you looking for?

Sometimes gun shows can be good places to look, too. At the ones I've frequented there are often a few big tables full of Case and other knives, and often they'll have things that are totally sold out online.

John, I'm looking for a Trapperlock with clip in something like zebrawood, blue bone, red bone, or anything else "interesting".

I have a Case Trapperlock in the smooth Chestnut Bone, which looks like a richly polished wood but is in fact bone. It has the clip. Not all of the Trapperlocks do. I left you a VM with a couple of vendors to check.

You can also do a Google search for "Case 6154LC" for bone, Case 5154LC for stag, 3154LC for yellow Delrin, or 7154LC for wood.

They made some in Antique River Wood not long ago, but I personally thought that was an unattractive wood.

Trapperlocks are really not considered traditional knives so I am hoping Gary won't spank me too hard for just giving you some search terms. I didn't show the pic of mine. :)
