Hi,
I see in the sears tool catalog on page 82 they have case and sons handcrafted knives.
I like the looks of the RussLock orange bone one, catalog number 52396.
Anyone have one of these knives?
What can you tell me about case knives?
Would something like this hold a edge good?
It's $50 in the catalog, what do you think of the price, good or bad?
Can the knife be opened with one hand?

Thanks for the info.
JP

I live in Bradford, Pa Case's hometown so I've seen
plenty of Case knives. The Russlock is probally my favorite
of all Cases. Actually this knife is pretty new I think it came
out in '99 or 2000 and is named after Case's founder J. Russel
Case. Russlocks can be opened with one hand using the little
arm thingy that sticks out from the tang end of the blade. This
is a liner lock knife and can also be closed with one hand although
it's a little trickier than most one-handers.

The steel used in most case knives is thier "tru-sharp" surgical steel
witch I believe is just 420hc, however you can get most of their models including the Russlock with yellow handles and what they call Chrome Vanadium blades witch is just 1095 carbon steel. (as far as I know) I have had case's both kinds of steel and they both will take a razor edge and hold it pretty well.

you can get most Case knifes in a variety of handle colors/materials. They also make just about every type of traditional slipjoint and lockback out there.

here in Bradford at the Zippo/Case store the Russlocks sell for about $45 depending on handle type so 50 bucks from sears isn't to bad of a deal.

hope this helps,

I love some of the Case knives. The Russlock is a nice one, but my favorite is the Cheetah with the swing guard. I also like the Seahorse Whittler. I love Whittlers with wharncliff blades.

It is doubtful that chrome vanadium steel would be 1095 since 1095 has no vanadium and no chromium in it.

Thanks for the info. Great link also.
Think Im going to go ahead and order that one.

Thanks again,
JP
