The other day, I noticed that one of the large Case dealers was showcasing a new line of Case knives featuring CV damascus. I know damascus knives don't tend to get a lot of traction here, but I think these look particularly nice, so here we are. The knives feature carbon CV steel damascus and Autumn (red/orange) dyed maple burl covers. I'm a bit of a sucker for maple burl in particular, so I find these hard to pass on. I've got a pre-order in for the Half-Whittler, but I'm giving some thought to switching my order to the Mini Trapper (wish it had a wharncliffe or coping blade instead of a spey though).

Have you guys seen these yet? Any of you have one already? I'd love to see some examples of Case's maple burl.

Alright, I need to be sold on the Peanut. I've never quite understood them. I'll have to go read through the thread here. :)

I just received notice earlier today that my Half-Whittler shipped. :D

Looks like you're stuck with the half-whittler.

The Peanut appeals to me as a miniature, but I never carry mine. Yes, it's more knife than I'm likely to need most days, but it's nowhere near as much knife as I can carry.

I tried to like the Peanut
I carried one for a while to try and understand the appeal
But I ran into too many situations where a larger knife would have been so much better
So, I don't carry a Peanut any more and opt for a Medium Jack when I feel like carrying something smaller

Funny how some things work for some and not others.. Late 80s to mid 90s all I carried was a single blade P-Nut.. I lost it and moved on but I dont ever remember feeling that it was inadequate.. Then computers came along and the dam opened..

I could make it work for almost anything, but just felt a larger knife was more convenient.
Cutting up apples is much easier with a longer blade, for instance... it can be done but not as easily.
I had some crazy hard pencils at work, and the Peanut didn't offer enough leverage to get good deep bites in the wood.
Just a couple of examples where a longer knife would have been more convenient. :)

Perfectly understandable John. That's why there are different patterns and sizes.

Besides, a Norfolk or wharncliffe trapper isn't exactly a big knife. Bigger than a peanut certainly, but most spring knives are dwarfed compared to cell phones for example.

I like the peanut. It’s not the most practical knife for sure. But it’s easy in the pocket (I almost always have a small knife in my pocket and a larger one in my bag or in a slip on my desk), and I find them fun to fiddle around with. And, you never know when you are going to need to cut some grapes or cherry tomatoes! 😄👍

The Half-Whittler came in today. :D

I am very, very pleased with it. The burl is fantastic! We're having some record breaking flooding here, and it's cold as heck, so I won't be going outside for pictures for awhile, lol. It's a shame because I can't get the burl to really show without natural light. :(

I'm pretty sure I've read it somewhere here before, but who makes the damascus for Case?
