Hello everyone!

I wondered if someone has any experience of American workman series from Case? They look pretty nice with jigged blue synthetic handles and are very nice. I've later come to terms with Case's Tru-Sharp and not anymore look CV priorty Tru-Sharp. Its pretty difference from CV but I also like it :)

I admit, I am not huge fan of stockmen. I got few. Few very nice Medium Schrade USA made (Old timer and Uncle henry) but its not really my cup of tea. However... Large stockman, now that is completely different beast. I got one Large Parker-Frost stockman and Camillus made Buck 301.

So I've been eying some nice Case large stockman. American Workman or Large Hunter Green stockman with peechseed jigged bone. Seem to be my current choices.

As my Favourite patterns are Canoes and Barlow' with Trapper's and Copperheads not far from behind the list (I only got 2 trappers and single Copperhead but I like them) I've come to conclusion that I like 'em big and sturdy. (in which my Case Swayback Jack, Case pen knife and Buck 309 are exceptions in terms of size)

If anyone has experience of either of those two or can recomend me some other very nice Large stockman from Case, I'll gladly accpet any input.

I have both the case 6318 medium stockman and the large stockman both in CV and like both although find the medium to small for personal grip and the large too big for pocket. Case makes a 3 7/8” model in the amber bone (sorry I do not know the number) and I think this is an overlooked size and not easy to find but same size as a BUCK 301 and a great size for the pocket.

I have the American Workman large stockman, and it was a bit disappointing. Case is definitely cutting corners with that series, and it shows. Mine has big gaps between the springs and liners, and just isn't up to Case's usual standards of F&F. The jigged blue delrin feels cheap and "greasy" to the touch, it's not as nice as yellow composition. Of your two choices, I would definitely go for the hunter green bone. It's well worth the few extra dollars. The amber bone large stockman is very nice, and is available in CV, if you're interested in carbon steel.

3 7/8" Case sounds really nice. I need to look for it. I guess price does show bit in quality. Amber bone large stockman wouldn't happened to have Pen blade istead Spey?

None of Case's current production large stockman knives have a pen in the place of the spey blade. I don't recall ever seeing that particular configuration on the 75 pattern, but I am far from an expert. That frame is a bit large for a true pen blade. You do see that quite a bit on the medium stockman frames, like the 32 or the 44.

The 3 7/8" stockman is the 47.

Case makes, or has made, many, many different stockman patterns.

Jani, do a search for "Case 6347" on ebay and you'll see several posibilities. To get one of the olive bone with grooved and pinched bolsters, you will have to go to a dealer.

The CASE Large Stockman I have (Amber/cv) is a much loved knife, very well finished indeed but it is a big knife. That Green Hunter version is likely to be good although I'm not a fan of the silver script badge.

You could try a Böker Large Stockman, with its rounded bolsters and only 4" closed it's appreciably smaller than the CASE equivalent. Carbon. Their Medium Stockman comes in stainless as well.

I think I'll go Case Dark Molasses stockman 3 7/8" long Stainless. I like the handle color and its around 4" long. Suits my needs well and would go nicely to Dark Molasses Barlow Ed was kind enough to aquire for me and I hoping to get that soon.

Amber bone is really nice but I really like also new Dark Molasses. I am not sure howlong Dark Molasses do last so I might jump on the gun now as long there's changes for them.

IMHO I think you will like the 47 series. I've never been real fond of the 18 series. I like the 75 and 92's. When you have one of those in hand, its a substantial knife, but sometimes a little big in pocket.
The 47 fits right in between the others

The Case large stockman is one of my favorite patterns. I carry a 6.5 stagbone model, but they discontinued that one.

I've noticed that the Amber Bone version in CV is usually pretty reasonable. I bought one last year for under $50. Both of mine are very well made.

There have been a few positive things said about the humpback whittler, which might also apply to the humpback stockman (someone who owns both would need to weigh in on the differences between the two).

Do yourself a great favour - pick up a Moore Maker 4 1/2" yellow bone stockman, or a German Eye 4 1/4" stag model - you will spend a week patting yourself on the back

If you ahve money look at the Northwoods ones. The Case stockman is not one of the world's great knives at the moment - not even the CV amber bone one.

(ducking)

Problem with the smaller stocman models is that they can be too small to be useful, whilst also having too many blades. As you say, a large stockman is a different animal altogether :) Next to the soddie, one of the all time superb knives

I need to check Moore Maker and German eye, but they have one slight problem: 0 availability in this country (and limited availability in flea beay for over seas shipping), so I have to go thru other chanels for them. It takes bit time.

I guess I'll be finding out about that shortly. I've got one coming to me; should be here tomorrow. I've never owned a Case stockman and wanted one to go with my Texas jack. If it's close to as good as the jack, I'll be happy. Jani is the cause of this; I got to looking at them because of this thread. I have to say that stockman knives don't generally appeal to me that much, but I have to have a Case just because. I tend not to use the spey on a stockman for some reason and I don't like sharpening that tight radius curve.

Nice pic :)

I've been looking into grabbing a case large stockman in CV as well. There a great video on YT showing the yellow CV cutting a bunch of stuff. Gives me a good idea of how it looks in the hand (and it looks pretty good)
My only issue is that I don't know how it will feel in pocket. Especially with the squared bolsters.

The 6347 with rounded boolsters is very comfortable in the pocket and the smallest practical size for my needs. I love case cv but my stockmen in stainless are very satisfactory & it seems to hold an edge better than the cv. The 6375 @ 4-1/4" (or whatever handle material you choose) is not a pocket knife; I carry mine in a Big Bend belt sheath which can also handle trappers.
