I just bought a nib case little copperhead from a reputable dealer here in the thawed out north(canada).it has a wharncliffe blade and a pen blade.the wharn has decent snap and the pen blade needs to be pushed close,it does have blade rub but that is not the problem, because even with the other blade open the pen blade needs to be pushed open and closed.but here is the kicker,if the warn is open to the 90 degrees the pen blade has some decent snap.any thought of what is going on.i also used some of my hoppes rifle solvent to clean out any factory oil.for the record I have become a slipjoint bone enthusiast and case or boker are the options we have(don't say gec,I still have one hernia surgery to come)they I've seen more polar bears this past moose hunt then gec knives in my lifetime. (It was seven polar bears we saw.)

Keep cleaning it.
Case is notorious for loading up their knives with hafting junk.
If you got compressed air. I would soak the knife in mild dish detergent and clean joints with a toothbrush.
JMO. Or return it?? 😁

Just can't understand why the pen blade has snap only when the warn is open to 90 degrees ,and not at any other position.im tempted to mess around with it instead of spending 40 to send it to case and then deal with customs.

It was manufactured in 2018,so it sat in a box a long while.

What about taking a light Dremel to the tang on pen blade.

OK.. Here goes..
When you open the main blade to half way you are loading the opposite end of the spring putting extra tension on it..
I got a half dozen mini-copperheads and just checked a few.. The pen blade really slams shut on mine as they have no closing issues..

As far as the year.. I just bought a barlow with a 2006 stamp on it with no issues..

Got ya,will do.im thinking if it has tension at some point, like when the warn is open to 90 degrees that a right proper(said with british accent which I don't have)cleaning it might bring the snap back.thanks for the suggestion.

As a guy that once collected/accumulated 100+ new in the box 40 + year old stockman, my advice is 3 days in mineral oil bath, flush with hot water, repeat then a good dose of WD-40 and blow out with compressed air.

John is the opposite blade spring under the most tension when the other blade is at the 90 position.

Just in the process of getting mineral oil.it seems to be a must have in the traditional slipjoint community.

I found that if you do the soak in a zip lock bag you can kinda “ wash it out “ by shaking and turning over during the soak. you will see the gunk flush out.

If you just bought it, and it has an obvious flaw, why not take it back to the dealer? Or, maybe contact Case about it?

Wash it out with warm-hot water, use some dishwashing soap with it. Then dry it with a towel. Then flush the action with rubbing alcohol to help remove residual water. Then dry it, and follow it up with some WD-40.

It's not unusual to find that some polishing compound has gotten stuck in the joint of the knife. The above process will fix that issue.

Here is what stumps me,that if it was gunked up would it have such great snap when the warn blade is at the 90.i mean I literally have to use force to close the lazy sucker in any other position.side note the dealer has offered to take it back and then he will Send it to case if I choose.so that would only be a 20 buck hit.but I'm going to try the cleaning first because I really like this red eyed blue jigged bone knife.the wife is getting mineral oil as I type(buying her pastries)which is a double win because I love pastries.
