Case lock blades

I have recently begun my venture into traditional slip joints. I have really been taken by case xx knives. I guess the reason is that I have found a couple of used ones at nice prices and well, money can be hard to come by right now, lol. My question is how is the quality of locking blade traditional knives in general? I have seen some copper locks and such online but they are hard to find... Thx!

Case makes a wide variety of lock-back knives, from small pocketknives with a locking blade to big hunting style folders (similar to the Buck 110) that you belt carry in a leather sheath. All are well made in the USA and designed for a specific use - I think if you match the knife to the use you will be pleased with the overall quality. OH

How solid are the locks? I am not looking to use it in places where fixed blades need to be used but is there play and such in the blades while locked? Should I not be purchasing unless I have the knife in my hands first? Etc, etc...

What is it you plan to do with the knives that requires the lock? I have a Copperlock and a Mini Copperlock which I don't use. As I recall they both locked up nice and tight with no blade play.

I have a Case Russlock which is one of my carry knives. It has a backspring plus a liner lock. It locks up solid with no play. The other liner-locking Case knives I own don't fit the restrictions for discussion in this forum, even though they look like traditionals.

I don't use knives in such a way where a lock is really required so I can't tell you how well they stand up to "hard use."

I use my knives for basic day to day, cutting boxes and such. It would also be used for some whittling and such. Small stuff like making shavings for fire.

I just got this Case mini copperlock from my Daughter as a gift and I am very happy with the fit and finish. It locks up tight with a nice snap and no play and also has nice walk which is sometimes gritty with my other case knives when new. It is 3 5/8" with good blade to handle ratio and can be pinched open easily. My girls always seem to buy me Case knives so I would say they are biased towards them haha.

I would classify the Case 61749L Mini-Copperlock as a light duty lockback - mine is the basic Amber Bone version.

This is a Case 21051 LSSP, which they don't offer any longer, however they pop up for sale from time to time. I would call this a medium duty lockback. OH

I have two Copperlocks, one with a clip and one with a wharncliffe (Both stainless), and a mini Copperlock in CV. They are all very well made with tight lockup and no side to side play. The mini has been in my pocket every day for almost a year and is still as tight as the day I got it. It has seen a lot of un babied action including weekly whittling sessions and daily cutting tasks. Very impressed by it. Love the Copperlocks!
