Case medium Stockman question

Hey, everybody. I ordered a medium stockman online as a Christmas gift for someone (Yeah, X-mas shopping already...so sue me!) and it arrived today. I'm not familiar with multi blade slipjoints like this and had a question about the blades in the closed position. The center blade on this knife doesn't close all the way, the tip of the blade is about in line with the edge of the liner when closed. I can push it all the way down but it springs back into that position. Are they designed this way to make the middle blade easier to open, or did I get a lemon? All of the pictures of the stockman line I can find online only show the blades in the open position so I can't really make an educated visual guess. Thanks!

It shouldn't have any tips or edges that are exposed when all the blades are closed.
I would return it for another one...

Yes, the center blade (which is the sheepsfoot blade) does sit like that on the Case Medium Stockman.

Its point is protected by the spey and main blades when all 3 blades are in the closed position.

I'm in agreement with the other guys. Mine is that way and I believe it's supposed to be like that.

I'm guessin I misunderstood the question :D Not the first time I've done that

you arent the first to bring this up on the medium stockman... my yeller medium stockman has the sheepsfoot sitting Proud:)
but it actually isnt a problem 'cause the other blades act as a shield of sorts...
that being said if it really bothers a person they could carefully file the kick down so the blade sits lower, it's not rocket science but ya do need to be careful.
That being said chances are the person wont even notice it!
It's not a flaw as ar as i know it's just the way they are:)
best of luck
ivan

If it sat any lower, you'd have a hard time getting to the nail nick to open it.;)

I respectfully disagree ..... as long as you go slow, filing down the kick on the sheepsfoot blade of a stockman is a very easy mod. I do it on all mine. Makes the knife feel better in hand.

I bought a large Stockman, and I did exactly that - I filed the kick on all three blades to give the knife a lower profile. It works great, but like Ivan said: be careful.

Here's a (crappy) phone pic, that shows how low the blade can sit: (top knife)

The top of the main blade is lowered (reprofiled) too, so the sheepsfoot looks lower than it is. The backspring is still pretty flush, too.

thx - cpr
