Not sure why , but there are several different sizes listed for different medium's
I guess the bolster shape has something to do with it round vs squared
but that would be 2 sizes I see 4 sizes 3 1/4" , 3 3/8 ", 3 5/8" & 3 7/8 " ??

The large comes in at 4 1/4

Case is the only mfg. I'm aware of that calls a 3⅞" stockman a medium stockman. To everyone else, that's a large stockman.
3⅜" to 3⅝" is typically the range for a medium stockman. The 3¼" size is normally thought of as a small, as in the Schrade 34OT Junior stockman and the Queen #26 Small stockman. Stockmen do come in just about every imaginable size.

These run from 4⅜" on the left, down to 3⅜" on the right, in ⅛" increments.

I think I have a pic somewhere showing them all lined up, but not on this computer. I may post it later.

It's odd, as mentioned, that the 44 pattern is considered a "medium" stockman, because it's not only rather small, but the same size as other companies' small stockmans. Barely shorter than a 34OT, but noticeably more svelte in the frame, with thinner blades and significantly (relatively) shorter secondary blades. Case does have a "small" stockman (33 pattern), at 2 5/8" closed, but it confounds me that this isn't a "tiny" stockman, given that Case has a "tiny" trapper and a "tiny" toothpick. So why not call the 44 and the 87 a "small" and the 33 a "tiny"?

John, you are sure right about the 47 being currently listed in their pattern chart as a "stockman". But I know that in the past I've seen the 47 referred to as a medium stockman, although it may not have been Case doing so. I distinctly remember it, because it was so odd to call it a medium at 3⅞".

Retailers don't always follow Case's naming conventions. But Case itself seems a bit loose with their terms.

Consider that the 62032 pattern is called the "Small Texas Jack" only when it is in Amber Bone CV. But in all other versions, it's called a Medium Jack. Except the current 62032 "Barnboard Jig Kentucky Bluegrass Bone Texas Jack." Which does not include "small" in the name. I have a couple of 62032 SS Sunset Winterbottom Bone versions, exact same pattern, that are labeled as "Medium Jack"

And then the '087 Jack is called "Medium Jack" on the web site, but the 22087 is often labeled as Texas Jack on the boxes themselves.

And to this day, and it has been that way since 2012 at least, they show the Amber Bone CV Small Texas Jack as pattern number 63032 on their web site, which is actually the pattern number for one of the Medium Stockman patterns.

If you are looking for perfect naming consistency, Case's product names are not where you will find it.

Case Stockman pattern pocketknives from the top down: 33, 44, 087, 032, 18, 32, 047, 92, to the 75 (bottom). I know I am missing the 90 in this picture, the 47, and the Humpback Stockman too. The 032 is a bit shorter than the 18, while the 32 is a bit longer. Case offers as much variation as your pocketbook can stand. OH

In addition to the wrcase website, you can find the 2018 Case catalog here. A word search will let you see all the currently available versions of the stockman.

Keep in mind that they have roughly a gazillion Stockman patterns, if you look at model numbers and their corresponding models, most have multiples, at least the early numbers, and almost all have a Stockman variation.
Thanks, Neal
