I have a case medium stockman with CV blades and a hoof pick. The pick is stainless. Anybody know why case used stainless for the hoof pick? Just curious. Thanks.

I think you are referring to the 6318pu?, if so it's a punch/awl not a hoof pic, as for it being stainless, possible for cost/production reasons, I don't own their scout but perhaps they cannibalized the punch/awl from the scout to use on the stockman, just speculating.

Thanks Stich, When I got this knife I filed off the edge on that awl and use it for a small hoof pick.

Thanks again.

That model has become my favorite from Case. I have one that I use the heck out of and one brand new waiting to be used if/ when something happens to the current one. It has been very practical and useful for me! The Awl has more uses that I thought it would.

Nice knife. Case often uses stainless for their back springs on the CV knives.
