All of the posts on here lately about the Mini Copperhead have sparked my interest in the pattern. There have been a lot of pics posted of some very nice looking MCH's but I have yet to see a pic showing the pen blade opened all the way.

I'm wondering if the pen blade slopes downward when opened like the spey blade does on a Sowbelly pattern. Looks like it might judging by the curve of the handle at that end.

I would really like to see a pic of a MCH with the pen blade fully opened if anyone would care to post one. Comments of course, are certainly welcome as well.

Thanks!

Here are mine, wharncliffe and clip mains, showing the pen blades.

The two versions have very subtle frame variations, but the pen blade angle is consistent....

Thanks, pertinux! That's exactly what I wanted to see! Your pics are greatly appreciated.

Do you find the angle of the pen blade when opened to be an advantage? Disadvantage? Neither?

My pleasure-- it helps that I'd already taken and hosted the picture, but I do enjoy being able to contribute when I actually have something pertinent on hand. :-)

As for the pen blade angle, it depends on the application. For push cuts, the angle is very comfortable, in part because of how the handle shape and "grip" created by the main blade shape fits into my hand.* Pull cuts require a more noticeable adjustment at first, and in general are less intuitive than with, say, the straight pen blade on a Peanut.

To me, the wharncliffe main suits this pattern better, both visually and in how the blades fit together. Whether consistent among different examples or unique to mine, the copperhead on my wharncliffe is more pronounced than on the clip. That said, the clip version feels slightly better when using the pen blade due to its lower profile. It's a subtle difference, however, and -- others' experiences might vary, depending again on hand size and/or application.

*I will note that, from what I can gauge by the pictures you've posted, your hands are a larger than mine. Still, I believe the basic angles would work the same. Hopefully others can chime in as well.

Hope this helps!

This is a timely thread. I have, within the past week or so, been on a mission to acquire a wharncliffe main version of the MCH.

These pics have put my mission in overdrive.
