For one reason or another these tiny Case MOP knives come my way and they are really starting to grow on me. The quality of these small MOP knives from Case is really quite nice and the workmanship isn't sacrificed on these little beauties. From a makers point of view, smaller knives are harder to make well so that makes these knives even more impressive. These all belong to my wife and she rotates them and other small slips as EDCs.

Post 'em if you got 'em!

I have a thing for Case Stag, thanks to you and your wife I may have a new passion for MOP.

Great pics.

Those are beautiful Kerry. I really like the peanut... very classy little knife. Great photos too.

I had this Case XX (1950s-60s?) but gave it away awhile ago.

Mother of Pearl Case knives are just pretty...
They use the good stuff with lots of fire!
I sure do like that RWB Trapper, Kerry!
Might have to locate one for my pocket!
Thanks for sharing the great photos, my Friend!

Kerry, that Baby Doc is sweet....looks more like a vintage pattern than something produced recently. I really like the shape of the blades. Nice 'un. Jerry

Beautiful knives and great shots of them too. That MOP is addictive stuff for certain. Thanks for showing them. Any tips on how you bring out those awesome pearly colors?

I've tried olive oil applied with a cotton swab. Let it sit awhile (1/2 hr) and then clean/buff with a soft cloth. This seems to help the lustre a little IMO. Not recommended where the mop is cracked as the oil gets in the crack and turns yellowish.

If you're talking about this from a photography angle, the only thing I do is use indirect or filtered light and camera angle/subject position to reduce glare. Glare is a killer and reduces the cameras ability to "see" true colors.

Impressive collection. I realize this is an old post, but I found it via search and wanted to pose a question about MOP.

Will MOP lose it's luster easily if used for EDC?

I've never owned one and MOP doesn't typically appeal to me, but I recently found a Queen MOP #59 pen knife that is exactly the size of my favorite pocket knife, and thus I'm attracted to it. I passed on it last weekend, but ever since I can't get it out of my mind. The price was decent and I'm thinking I'm going back to purchase it tomorrow, but I'd like to know how MOP will stand up to riding in a pocket on a daily basis.

Any and all info is appreciated.

Also & off topic, but isn't the baby doc shown fairly rare since it's got two pen blades, vs the usual pen & spatula blade?

Thanks in advance.

Those are some exquisite little pocket jems!!!:thumbup:

I love the light blue highlights in the peanut, but then I admit freely I'm biased.:D

I could get interested in pearl, but I guess I've always been a little leary of it, thinking it's fragile. But if you're better half is edc'ing them, maybe it's more durable stuff than I thought. Certainly, those well used old Sheffield pen knives smiling-knife is showing off have stood the test of time. Yeah, maybe I do need a pearl peanut for dress up!:)

Carl.

Love 'em! I dig the peanut especially, I've been wanting to pick one of those up for a while. Case does a great job with their MOP. Here's my only Case in pearl at the moment (please to ignore the non-pearly one below):

Biglmbass, I wouldn't worry about pearl losing its luster. I've seen plenty of 80+ year old pearl knives that still look nice and pearly. Here's a little Buck 507 that saw several years of pocket time, apparently carried along with change and keys, and the pearl is still lookin' fine. The pearl has worn better than the bolsters, actually. Again, please excuse the non-pearl inclusion.

That little Buck has thoroughly convinced me of the durability of pearl. That knife has clearly been ridden hard and put away wet- it is all kinds of dinged up all along the liners and bolsters, but the pearl is just fine, and it is mighty thin stuff- maybe 1mm at its thickest.
