Hi

I would like to share with you my idea for how to improve spey blade in this knife. I am a big fan of sheepsfoot type blades so now this trapper is one of my favourite. To made it I simply used grinder and cold water. Steel was cold so hardness should be fine.

I've never liked nor found a use for the spey blade.

I have a couple of the mini trappers with the clip and warnecilffe bade combo and carry them a lot.

What a great mod, way to go! I always wanted to mod. the spey on my #66 calk roper into a pen, then I found the #62 Maverick, so the idea has been back-seated, for a while.

Well done!
yup cool water and a slow grind is all ya need, ain't gonna hurt the temper at all.(I've probably modified a hundred blades that way :) )

Did you cross drill it and add the lanyard hole too? Don't think I've ever seen a mini trapper with one before.

Looks like a pretty close cousin to the one I did a couple weeks ago :D (I didn't have any choice than to do the clip blade though since some fool had broken that blade)

Hi, yes I did but that was easy part because brass is super soft. Before drilling I marked two points (one each side) with Vic Farmer's awl. Nice wharncliffe too. If you can't find it, make it - this is always the best way to go ;-)

Tonight, after I got home, I ground the long spey on my full-size Case Trapper into a wharncliffe blade. I find it a lot more useful than the longer spey!

Ron
