Autobahnd "Roadblock" poly film vs. Case peanut
Here at my local Saturn dealer, we have an installer from the Autobahnd auto protection film company installing one of their 1mm poly film "clearbra" auto protection films on the nose of a customer's car
The film is a 1mm thick polyethylene film, designed to protect auto paint against rock/gravel damage,it's tough stuff, but how does it stand up against a Scary Sharp TruSharp Case Peanut?
I was given a small sample of the film, and was surprised how thick it felt, it could be stretched rather far and would return to it's original size, it's tough stuff
Test 1- Abrasion resistance;
I took each blade of the peanut and scraped the surface of the film at around a 45 degree angle, faint scuffs appeared, but quickly healed showing no signs of damage
Test 2- point penetration against a solid backing surface;
I attempted to stab the film with it sitting on a table, as with the abrasion test, momentary damage healed up with no visible remnants
Test 3- puncture/cutting test;
With an unsupported piece of film, I pushed the blades through the film, they easily penetrated and cut the film cleanly and surgically, no resistance it's like the film wasn't there, the rep was quite impressed with the performance of the tiny peanut, as was I
Test 4- cut test on a solid surface;
when on a solid backing surface, cuts would go through and the cut area did not seem to heal itself, unless cut at an angle, cuts were undetectible
When installed on a solid surface, Roadblock is amazingly tough, resilient stuff, it can't withstand a direct cut on a solid surface or hanging free, it's no match for a Scary Sharp knife, but as an anti-abrasion protectant surface, it's quite tough
