Case Peanut vs GEC #9 Esquire

Sorry no comparison for you buy also check out the new #22 Magnum. I handled them both at the GEC booth last month & the Magnum is a great little knife! Same length but the little extra bulk made it easier to hold on to while opening. Just my observation. Can't go wrong with a case peanut either especially at their price point.

Here is the best comparison shot I have. Don't believe I have anything with the blades open and I no longer have the esquire to take more pics. If I'm not mistaken the esquire was thinner than the case. Hope this helps a little.

What are the 2 on the right?

Useful picture that Jone.

Was thinking about an Esq. but suspected it could be too small for my taste. There are some very decent handle options too. Seeing it next to that Northfolk confirms my suspicions as the Northwoods is itself a very small frame with a long narrow Wharncliffe.

The Conductor or 25 are for me at least the smallest viable GEC knives. Fortunately, many think otherwise.

Regards, Will

You are correct willgoy. The norfolk wharncliffe is long and lean and the frame is pretty thin. I liked its size - as I like smaller knives - but the pull on mine was too soft for me. I eventually sold it as I preferred my peanut to it. The GEC conductor is a little larger that still carries very small, but feels more capable, at least to me. Another great pattern. I love the coping blade they included on some models. Can't go wrong with those 33's.

Jennifer

I'm with you there Jennifer. The snap and pull on my Northfolk is very tame whereas the Conductor exhibits very satisfying snap on both the Tidioute and Cyclops works ones, likewise the Owl. How about the Esq.? I imagine it would have rather soft pull/snap?

Thanks, Will

Will, the esquire pull and snap was light, but still stronger than the norfolk I had. It is a nice little pen knife, just not as useful to me as the peanut.

Here you go Big Papa not great pictures but you get the idea. I carried the nut in my watch pocket for a long time ,as you can see i rounded the small pen blade cos i think a coping blade is more usefull, when i got the ebony Esquire it took over pocket duty, but i felt it was a bit to slim for ease of handling if like me you have arthritic fingers so i got the stag version , it is more tactile but as i found out yesterday while out and about taking photos the little rascal will slip out of your fingers,
i am hoping the Magnum i am waiting for will be a bit easier to handle..

Each has their place - get both :)

I love my yellow Case Peanut, and it is easily one of the sharpest knives I own. My cocobolo GEC Esquire is just as useful a small knife, and the little extra touches (coined liners, long pull) make it look fancy. I've yet to get it as sharp as my Peanut though. I also prefer the pointier main blade of my Peanut.
