Case question (possibly without an answer)

I really enjoy the shorter clip on the full sized trapper or the Texas jack. The mini trapper has a longer clip that’s more muskrat. Does anyone know the reason for this, or have perhaps a good explanation? I own two mini trappers and, while it’s simply aesthetic, I really dislike the muskrat-esque clip.

Thanks in advance!

I got confused with your "shorter" and "longer" terms, because the Large Trapper obviously has a "longer" blade than the Mini Trapper.
But then I figured out that you meant the Large Trapper has a "broader" or "wider" blade than the Mini Trapper. And I agree, I like a broader Clip Blade better too.

They used to use a broader Clip blade on the Mini Trapper frame, but it was called a Dogleg Jack (top knife) and had a small Pen blade secondary with the nick on the opposite pile side....

But when they went to the Mini Trapper model with the full-length Spey blade secondary, they trimmed down the Clip blade so you could access the nick on the Spey blade on the same Mark side of the knife...

There's your answer, unless I completely misunderstood your question.

This is a full sized trapper, and I purchased new in the Sporting Goods store, probably 1978.

it has cleaned a lot of squirrels, and the shield fell off and never found it. Such is life. Incidentally, a tool that makes removing the head, hands, and quartering squirrels easy, is that poultry shear.

If you notice that trapper has a very thin point, and I hated it. Always sticking myself with it. I have a couple of post 2000 trappers, and Case has added more belly up front, so I think the later trappers are a better design.

Nope. This answers it. My one standard mini is in storage. I just assumed since they did it on full size, they could push it to mini. I’m a dope. Haha. Thank you.
