Hi all,

i recently acquired an old case XX folding hunter from 140-1964. It's a BEAUTY.

I was wondering if Case reconditions knives?

I need two things done to this girl:

1. Pivot redone to reduce blade play and replace a crappy custom pivot done by someone
2. Repin scales. the scales are pretty gnarled but I love them the way they are. i want to keep the old scales just have them repinned.

the blade was rusted out at somepoint, but were cleaned up nicely. Lots of pits, etc but takes a keen edge and seems very strong.

take care and thanks,

brett

Case will recondition knives but as far as I know they do it with new parts if needed. The pivot pin shouldn't be a problem, but I'm not sure what they would do with the scales. You should probably contact them and find out.

Yeah, I sent them an email. If not, I'll get a private person to do it. Should be doable.

thanks!

Brett decided to send his knife to Bob Picklesimer whom I recommended.

I just got this old Schrade 250T back from him.

That has turned into quite a looker there. What is the contact info on the person doing the work?

ilbruche,

that's quite nice. could you post or PM contact info for Bob Picklesimer?

Moving this over to the "embellishment" area so that other members can make note of the info provided in this thread.

Be advised that the work pictured is customization, not restoration. Nice work, though.

The Camillus and Case trapper I got back look factory fresh.

The Case is a red bone double pull 6254. The spey blade didn't seem to line up when opened. Bob sent it to Case and they said that was how it was made and they couldn't do anything besides swap it for a new knife. All it needed was a little filing on the backspring.

The Camillus had some glue on the scales and around the shield. All that got cleaned off and the shield was re glued. Looks better than when I got it.

Well, I take it ALL back. I talked to Bob today and he's going to give this baby a whole new look. new handles, stipling on the bolsters, etc.

Can't wait to see it!

Hi all,

First, I have to say that Bob is one of the nicest fellows I've had the pleasure to meet on this or any forum. He insisted on taking care of my case hunter out of the kindness of his heart.
Second, MAN CAN HE RE-ENLIVEN a knife. I sent him my Case 6165 SAB from the 1940-1964 batch. This dude was in BAD shape. Cracked scales, a huge chunk out where the spring is pinned in the middle of the spine, and about as dirty as can be.

Here's a pic of the girl before Bob got her:

Bob cleaned her up, put brand spankin' new bone scales on her, embellished the bolsters and sent her back in a nice case sheath. Here are some after pics I snapped on my back porch:

Bob, I can't say thank you enough. So, I'll just say 'thank you' my friend.

If you've even had someone take care of something like it were their own, you get an idea of how Bob works. It's rare in this world to have someone like that.

Oh, and to boot, I sent Bob a few bejiggered slippies that i screwed up. Not only did he make my case BEAUFITUL, he also fixed up my northwoods peanut.

Thanks so much!!!

Brett

I'm sure Case can do what you are wanting, but I would ensure it with a phone call and an E- mail. I just recently sent one back because a blade was getting loose, and 5 days after I took it to the post office it was back in my mail box. They did an awesome job, and I couldn't believe how fast I got it back.

he did a great job didn't he? I might actually get a chance to buy him a steak next week. I might have dinner with him and some other gents.

Great guy and amazingly generous!
