I had started a thread about Case restoring a knife for me here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1025857-A-Christmas-Miracle?highlight=christmas

When I made that thread, I didn't include before pictures because I had completely forgot that I had taken any and honestly didn't think that I had any. I was cleaning out pictures off my phone and ran across the pics I took before I sent the stockman to Case. I try to take better pictures now, but this is what I sent and got back from case. It was my father in law's dad's knife. He gave it to me, it was in bad shape, so I sent it to Case for repair and gave it back to my father in law for Christmas.... Here are the pics:

That is amazing! Huge props to Case for this one! They did a fantastic job! If you dont mind, how much did they charge?

They did not charge anything, but I honestly don't know why they didn't. I wrote them a letter explaining why I wanted the knife repaired and not replaced..... maybe that was part of the reason. I was fully prepared to pay at least the cost of a new knife as it was a family heirloom. A busted family heirloom, but a heirloom none the less. I guess it could be because the delrin had obviously failed due to materials and workmanship issue which would be covered warranty, but I never even talked to anyone about it.

They did a fantastic job and your father-in-law is a lucky man. Even the old box has class. About what year is that from?

I don't really know to be honest. I didn't learn about Case's dating system until after giving it to him.

3318HE?

I wonder if the original scales were celluloid and not delrin. That'd explain the shrinkage of the handles and the tarnish on the bolsters.

Wow. That's an amazing restoration. Must have replaced the scales. Can you tell if they replaced the blades and liners etc?

Could be. Did they use yellow celluloid back then...... I didn't feel as hard as I'd think celluloid would be.

The handles had to be replaced. Everything else was retained. They did polish up the blades, but you could still see the patina on the blades, but it was cleaned up. In this case, Case did good. Ha, ha.

original blades and new handle. They did an awesome job, gotta love Case for their customer service!

That's a winning repair job. That knife will be treasured for a long time, I'm sure.

Good example of using customer service to win over a customer. People like it when you treat them right! Great job by case btw...

That was definitely celluloid! I have seen it a number of times.
They did the same repair for me on two white handled Melon Testers, replacing the Celluloid with Delrin - just like yours!
Except I paid $6 per knife - you got a real deal!!
