Hey guys. I've recently found the utility of my Victorinox soldier to be something that I just can't do without. I've owned it for a good while, but only recently started carrying it on a regular basis. I've found that I use the other tools just as much as the blade itself. The only problem is that I don't get any real joy out of carrying it. It's just too sterile looking. So, I was thinking about getting a Case jr scout. Does anyone own one, and if so, how do you like it?

I have 3 of them. They seem a little smallish to me but I'm a big Guy.

Check out flea markets & garage sales, or the big online auction site, you can find old scout knives cheap,

These two I bought at flea markets last year

You can find depending on condition anywhere from a $1- ++$ but the one on top is really nice and in really great condition and I only paid $24 for it, the one with the broken scale was $3 or $5, so it gives you sort of a benchmark.

Stich is right! I picked this Ulster at a garage sale for a Buck. Allot of people really don't know what they have.

I would look for old scout knives as Pete suggested. I've found Remingtons, John Primbles, an old Camillus and a few others. They are plentiful at gun shows. I would stay away from the Kamp Kings unless you want something to toss in a glove box.

The best current production I've seen is the AG Russell scout knife I bought for my little brother. I got it several years ago on the Exchange from another member, for cheap. I don't know which US company makes them, but they did one heck of a job. I would check with AG to see if they're still in production.

I've been looking for something similar, I like scout knives but finding one that rides nicely has been my main problem so i was considering the case scout jr, it's just the ss stopping me int he new ones.

here's an older (70's) case scout that replaces my sak pretty often, and it's CV, (next to a vic farmer) you can sure find some nice ones easily enough, that's another thing to like about the pattern i suppose :)

sorry, they have not been available for a long time, I have another, even better one coming and a larger one as well. It will be several months.

That is great to hear. They are one of my favorite designs and a large one would be perfect.

I like my Rough Rider. Also, the American Buffalo Knife and Tool company markets a scout knife. If you can't find a dealer through google send me a PM and I will tell you where I found one here in the states. Hasn't arrived yet so don't know how it compares. Jack Black posted a picture of it in a different thread recently.

I find Case's Scout Jr to be extremely small. If you like peanuts you might not mind it but it's not a heavy duty knife by any means.

The Case Jr. Scout is a tad small...especially compared to their regular sized Camper

Similar to the my Colonel Coon, which was also made by Schatt and Morgan and I think Queen too

I like the Camillus, Ulster, Pal, etc. standard Scout knife but they are bigger and chunkier than the above. I have a Camillus 5 blade Deluxe that I carry in my pocket as it has no bail. My regular Scout knives go in a belt pouch, but so does my Vic Huntsman.

Then there is this guy

Same length as a regular Case camp knife, but thicker to accommodate the pliers.

My favorite for pocket carry:

It's a Weidmannsheil, and I think you can still find them. Carbon blades too.

Boker's camp knife has more blades but is very pocketable

Hope this helps!

Thanks for he replies. I didn't realize how small the jr. scout was. I'm glad I posted the question before I bought one.

Here's the stag AG Russell Scout. It's as good as it gets.

My Cattlemen's Cuttlery scout knife came today. It looks like it will be ok but it's definitely not an A.G. Russell. A little bit of wobble on the accoutrements and as said in a different thread they should have omitted the awl. It's very flimsy and would be better being reground into a fingernail cleaner.

Shame about the CC Wade. That AGR looks great. My Belgian clasp knife and Mauser Officers Knife fill this slot for me, but the classic pattern has grown on me. Currently only have a RR, and I've barely carried it.

Here's an old Richards, which now belongs to Uncle Andi

Thanks for all of the replies. I've been checking out eBay, and tomorrow I'm off to a few local flea markets and estate sales.

AG, that's great news. I am very interested in getting one if the quality is the same as the one I got for my little brother. That was a great knife.
