I think the Case Select peanuts are a little underappreciated right now. The reasons being that they are low production run knives, they have the swedged clip blade everyone loves, they have nickel silver bolsters and liners, they have unique tang stamps, they are sold only through certain Case dealers, and finnaly they are peanuts.:D These knives can all still be bought without going through to much trouble, but I wouldn't be surprised if they become harder to find as more people discover the Case Select line of knives. Below are some pictures of the Case Select peanuts that have been produced so far.

Top to bottom:
1998 - Rogers jigged blue bone
2001 - Smooth candy stripe celluloid
2002 - Christmas tree celluloid
2007 - Snakewood
2006 - XX Prime stag
2010 - Mediterranean blue saw bone
2011 - Winterbottom jigged mose green bone

Very nice collection. I've got my first Case Peanut on the way right now. I love the elegant curves.

Nice collection! I have not heard of Case Select before.

Is there a noticeable difference in quality between the standard issue knives and Case Select? And do they use a premium steel, or does "select" primarily refer to the handles (which are beautiful, btw)?

Nice collection and photos! The knives look really nice with the nickel silver liners. The Peanuts from the associates set also had nickel silver liners but the blades on those knives don't have the swedges and long pulls.

Other than the polishing on the inside for the liners and backsprings I don't see much of a difference in the fit and finish compared to the standard line, whereas with the Bose knives I can tell a difference in the fit and finish from the standard line. All of these knives are SS, which is their standard surgical steel. The biggest differences from the standard line are the nickel silver liners, blade swedges, handle materials, the bolsters on some, and in general the knives have a classier appearance to them. Also, the Select knives are not dated on the tang stamps with Case's x and . system. The Select series isn't always released every year and the patterns vary from series to series, so I am not really sure what their method is, but I like them.

I've carried two peanuts for a significant amount of time, one SS (which I've since sold off) and my current EDC which is CV steel. In performance, I've noticed exactly zero different. I think that's mainly due to the nature of cutting tasks suited to a knife this size: Simple, every-day, real-world cutting stuff. It's not a knife for the hunting camp or farm or construction site necessarily.

Those are sweet looking 'nuts, by the way. Probably worth a few extra bucks for the fancier touches -- especially if, like me, you'd get one and carry it day in and day out. Might as well tote something nice, eh? :)

Good information. Thanks!

What a wonderful way to start my day off. Check on the forums to see what's up, and be greeted with an array of beautiful peanuts. Select peanuts at that. Beats the shade grown Mexican gourmet coffee fresh found from the beans. What great peanuts!

And Mark is right, I've never noticed a difference between the true sharp and CV for the normal day to day use that small knife like a peanut is used for. I just prefer the CV for the patina and tradition.

I think I'll make some toast and put some peanut butter on it for breakfast. I feel inspired. Thank you of that wonderful 'nutty' post.:D

Very handsome collection. A nice lineup of one specific pattern in various handle materials really makes for a great looking display.

Peanuts and Carl, why we come here. I fell in love with CV but have been impressed with SS. "Plain or roasted" I love peanuts...

I was totally oblivious to the Case Select knives until I read this thread thanks for sharing. That candy stripe peanut looks grand.

Plain or roasted is good. Just don't boil them!

I really love that some of the select 'nuts are available with the long pull. I love long pulls!

Thanks for this post.

I wound up ordering two of the stag handled from [non BF vendor deleted]. The grooved bolsters are very appealing.

They just showed up today, they are tiny, and won't replace my bigger, high tech folders for hard work, but I am looking forward to getting some good time in with the Peanut anyway.

Best Regards,

Wowza! I love that candystripe one! Not enough traditionals done in candystripe celluloid these days. It's a GREAT look in my opinion. Classy, but casual.

Thanks, hopefully the little peanuts capabilities surprise you. I have also bought a few knives becaue of threads I've come across on BF. Glad to say I've been happy with all the knives I've purchased because of those threads.

I like the Case Select knives quite a bit. I have the 2010 and 2011 knives in the OP, and they're both very nice. The grinds on the 2010 version are pretty amazing. Out of all of my peanuts, it has the best fit & finish. The fit & finish on all of the Select knives is very good. The nickel silver liners are great too.

I collect peanuts. I want those celluloid Selects! Actually, I want them all.

Great post, FuriousPace!
