On my 12th birthday, Dad gave me his “buck knife” that I’d grown up watching him carry and use. He told me “ a man needs a good blade”. I was absolutely honored to accept it, and while dad never hunted ( in my lifetime ), he always carried it while fishing and when he played euchre, when he grilled out and when anything needed to be cut or trimmed around the house, out came his “ buck knife”. lol I use quotations because that’s what he always called it, I know that there’s a difference, and he did too, guess it was just the terminology of the time. Anyhow, in my youth and disregard for taking care of my things, I broke the tip off the blade, dad did what he could back then to reshape it, but my question is does anyone know if Case could re-blade the ol girl ? I’m assuming the Case Mako would be the closest blade they’d have, but does anyone know if they would do like Buck does, and do a spa treatment/new blade, and send it back with the old blade for keep sake purposes ?

I don't know if Case would do a repair or not, nor the cost if they will.

Case has answered the few emails I've sent requesting info on my knives, usually inside two weeks.
You could ask them.

Didn't they change the name from Shark Tooth to Mako?
I've always "thought" they are the same knife.

The Case Sharktooth was a premium lock-back from Case, it had a rounded frame, advertised to be more comfortable than the flat framed lock-backs. The Case Mako was a Case competitor to the Buck 112 Ranger, while the Case Hammerhead was a Case competitor to the Buck 110 Folding Hunter - all four of those knives were flat-framed, the Buck’s being noticeably thicker. The Hammerhead and the Sharktooth “may” have shared a common blade (with different etching) but I am not sure about that. The early blades on all of those knives changed over time from a huge choil to a more normal appearing choil. Best thing to do is write Case and see if they can support the knife repair you want. Next is look for a blade and see if one of the many talented blade smiths here (and at AAPK) can make the swap. Good luck, OH

Ps. What I referred to as the huge choil on the earliest of the Case lock-back blades would be properly called a finger groove - although I would never use it as such. Apparently Case came to that same decision and redesigned the blades in the early 1980’s giving the blade more cutting edge and normalizing the look (making it look more like a Buck blade). OH

Not to hijack the thread but I didn’t realize that Case had discontinued their “Shark” line until this thread. I just decided to take a look and none to be found.

kyhunt kyhunt I read that too, but there are still plenty out there in display cases all over the country. At about $20 to $40 more than you have to pay for the equivalent Buck Knife I think they were slow sellers. I have seen them in stock in several displays in the last couple of months as I travel about. Might go ahead and get you one if you want it (before #bay runs the cost up). OH

Honestly I had a stag Mako a few years back. I honestly can’t remember what it was that I didn’t care for about it. It might of been I was simply more of a 110 fan.

I got myself a Mako back in 1980 when I was a Senior in high school. I loaned it to a good buddy who lost it a couple of years later. It was a really nice knife as I recall and I recently looked around to see if I could pick one up. I got it instead of Buck 110 back then because it was a tad smaller and lighter in weight. The last one I saw on an online retailer was quite a bit more expensive than it was in 1980! Still, I'd probably spring for one if it matches my memory.
