I was going through some old boxes this morning and I found a Case Shark Tooth that was given to me in the mid 80's. Back then I thought it looked to nice to carry so I stuck in a a box and forgot about it. I took it out today and other than some discoloration on the brass ends the knife looks brand new. Is there a way to figure out an approximate born on date? IIRC I was told that the knife was a few years old but unused when it was given to me.

I don't know if it is any help, but on one side of the blade it is stamped "Case XX", "Stainless U.S.A", and three (3) "small dots". The opposite side of the blade has "P197 L SSP". It's still not something that I would want to carry so I'm trying to figure out whether I should hang on to it or sell it and use the funds towards something else.
