Case should make a camping knife

Why doesn't Case make a camper anymore? It would look real nice in yellow delrin, I don't see why they couldn't roll it out in a basic configuration and see how it sells, maybe try to keep it under $60. I'd love to see an all carbon steel model as well... If it was well executed I'd probably buy a few and I'm sure a bunch of other people would too.
It should have a better driver/ opener than the rough rider though. Screwdriver blade is too thin/ precise and the cutout for opening bottles is a bit small.

I "thought" they still make a mini/"butterbean canoe" size scout/camp knife?

Which can opener design are you hoping for? blade? (like some RR have) from c1900 to c.1918, "2 piece" (look similar to a 2 prong fork)
c. early 20's through WW2, or the modern (post 1947) "safety" can opener, found on the "Demo" knife and the post 1948 official BSA knives?
I'd like to see the WW2 type.

I agree a full size (3.65" closed, or XL of around 4.5" closed) Case scout/camp knife (with a traditional bail and cs blades) would be a very tempting addition to the collection/accumulation of the pattern..

Am I mistaken or is the mini scout knife the only one Case ever actually made in house.
I thought I had read somewhere that Case rebranded the scout knife they once offered and never actually manufactured it themselves .

Just the standard lobster claw opener, I think that's the one on the old demo knife. It works really well, just opened a can of beans for dinner tonight with it.
The blade would be like the one in the pic, just a normal spear blade.

I totally agree, Case should bring back a camp knife!
But as others have said & what I've heard is that Case farmed them out in the past to other companies for production. I may be wrong but I think Camillus did a few for them 🤔

I would not be surprised if Ulster made some as well, not just Camillus.

The modern safety can opener might be the "best" ... or required, if the corporate liability lawyers have a say. 🤨
Years ago (in the dark pre-Internet days) I read a government report that said most of the US troop injuries in the various theaters during WW2 were from cuts received from opening C ration cans.
Recall: Prior to the current safety can opener design, the sharp edge from opening a can was pushed up; not down into the can.

While dating my 1936-1955 Imperial Engineers knife (has the safety can opener) I found out that design was introduced in 1947. Narrowing the date range of my knife to 1947 to 1955. I don't know of any way to narrow the date any further. 🤨
Regardless, that knife is at least as old as I am, or possibly up to 8 years older. 😁👍

I am waiting for Case to do a run of camp/scout knives, because I really love their camp knives. It has been a while since they've done a run though (as far as I have been able to tell). I really want an official Scouts Case camp knife.

Well, Case made (or contracted) them in the past!! Why not now!!Case Redbone 2.jpgCase Redbone 3.jpg

The only one I remember in recent history was the Junior Scout, and I think Case had Queen manufacture them. Now that Queen is gone, and they don't have the tooling to make a scout knife I think we may be out of luck.
I absolutely love the scout pattern from a pure nostalgia point of view, remembering all the old Imperial Kamp King's, Demo Knives, BSA knives, etc. Unfortunately the tool set is kind of obsolete as most bottles have screw off caps, many cans have pull tabs, and pliers based multitools offer far more functionality, so I think it is unlikely that the lowly scout knife will make a resurgence.
On a related note, I e-mailed Case asking them to re-release a swell end jack knife because they were wildly popular and I felt they would do very well for them. The response I got was "thanks for your suggestion, but those knives have been discontinued" 😕 maybe if enough people keep asking we can get some of our old beloved patterns back, but I am not holding my breath.

I do not have the Case one but RR makes a very similar one, if you want those implements

Perhaps Case will take the full-size Scout pattern "out of the vault" this decade?
(I am not going to suggest anyone hold their breath on that. Likely get rather gray faced (forget blue faced) if they did. 🤨)

I wouldn’t be surprised if Case no longer has the tooling for a Camp knife. 🫣😞
John 😁
