I just received a 1984 Case Slimline Trapper in the mail and all I can say is WOW!
The very first "real" knife I bought more than 30 years ago was a Buck 110. I still have that knife even though it doesn't get used anymore. I have bought a number of locking knives over the years, also, and have like most of them (Griptilian, Skyline, Blur, Vex, Cara Cara, Baconmaker, Endura, etc., etc.), but for me these knives just don't have soul. I then started to buy Case slippies starting with a Peanut and I was immediately hooked. Then I came across the stockman pattern and really liked it, so, I started buying those here and there. I just feel like a slipjoint kind of guy. I am not a collector, so, I only buy Case knives when I get them worth the money. That way I can use them and if something happens to them then I don't have to feel too bad.
Recently I started carrying a Kabar Baconmaker in my back pocket (along with the Stockman and SAK Classic in my front pocket) and have been using it as a food knife. I like it and it works very well, but again, for me, it just has no soul. So, I ran across this Slimline Trapper searching the interweb and on a whim decided to pick it up. I am surprised that I have never picked up one of these before because they are sweet.
It is a very basic knife with Delrin scales but the design is more than I ever thought it would be. It feels terrific in the hand and for lack of a better word it is "sexy". I need to find a pocket sheath for it, but I am hooked again. For now I need to sharpen it since it left the factory just a little sharper than a butter knife (but I can fix that). Then it will go into service.
