I just received a 1984 Case Slimline Trapper in the mail and all I can say is WOW!

The very first "real" knife I bought more than 30 years ago was a Buck 110. I still have that knife even though it doesn't get used anymore. I have bought a number of locking knives over the years, also, and have like most of them (Griptilian, Skyline, Blur, Vex, Cara Cara, Baconmaker, Endura, etc., etc.), but for me these knives just don't have soul. I then started to buy Case slippies starting with a Peanut and I was immediately hooked. Then I came across the stockman pattern and really liked it, so, I started buying those here and there. I just feel like a slipjoint kind of guy. I am not a collector, so, I only buy Case knives when I get them worth the money. That way I can use them and if something happens to them then I don't have to feel too bad.

Recently I started carrying a Kabar Baconmaker in my back pocket (along with the Stockman and SAK Classic in my front pocket) and have been using it as a food knife. I like it and it works very well, but again, for me, it just has no soul. So, I ran across this Slimline Trapper searching the interweb and on a whim decided to pick it up. I am surprised that I have never picked up one of these before because they are sweet.

It is a very basic knife with Delrin scales but the design is more than I ever thought it would be. It feels terrific in the hand and for lack of a better word it is "sexy". I need to find a pocket sheath for it, but I am hooked again. For now I need to sharpen it since it left the factory just a little sharper than a butter knife (but I can fix that). Then it will go into service.

 My favorite pattern - I completely agree with using the term "sexy" when describing them.

Be careful, they're addicting! (That reminds me... I gave away the red one and need to find something to take it's place...;)).

I have a pre 70's one in stainless. It is a favorite of mine.

Yeah...there is something about the slimline Trappers, no doubt about that!, nice knives guys!

It is a lovely pattern - thogh I have to admit to preferring those by other manufacturers

I have always had interest in that pattern but just haven't ever pulled the trigger. Maybe I should? :;)

It's a very fine pattern. i have a few from CASE, couple from Queen Cutlery (their Utility knife) and a GEC Tidioute in Tractor Green. The latter is a little bit smaller than the other knives but is, I think, the best made. I also own a Schatt from 1991 in their yearly Keystone knives. Fine jigging and an unusual sabre ground blade, not seen it on this pattern before. That said, I really like the CASE Barehead versions. They have kindled my interest in the French Traditional Laguoile pattern, another slim but very serious knife.

I'm carrying that pattern right now, in yellow Cv. Split my bagel with it this morning! Good start to an honest days work!

I'm quite fond of the slim line trapper the size and slim profile make for a fine food prep knife to cary. I am how ever, not fond of the Case blade design. I don't like the pronounced saddle of the front of the clip on their blades, like the difference between the clip on their trapper and mini trapper. I also perfer a flat grind to a hollow grind, and most of the Case slimlines are markedly undersprung.
I have bought several of them though, regrind the blades to suit my eye and correct the undersprung condition. This is one of the Case patterns I would love to see go into the "vault" while they redesign it slightly and referb their jigs.
