I'll be getting a Case Sodbuster Jr. with yella handles and CV blade in the mail in a week or so. I was thinking about knocking the corners off the bevel and "convexing?" the edge with some sandpaper. What are your thoughts on this? Would it improve cutting? Should i just leave it as is and let it happen naturally?

I'd just leave it alone. The CV blade takes and holds an edge pretty well.

I would definately leave the blade as it was designed. I don't think you will get any improved performance and you may end up with a knife you wish you left as is. Wait till you try it out and use it. I think you will be happy with it as it was originally designed.

Thanks guys. Besides a little Schrade Gambler that i EDC this is my first real venture into the wonderful world of traditionals. This sodbuster will hopefully be enough knife to replace my benchmade as i'm trying to go a more simplistic route.

The blade on the Jr Sodbuster is hollow-ground very thin, especially near the edge. I don't think it'd benefit much from convexing. IF you choose to, you can still maintain the edge with sandpaper on leather (such as a strop block), with an edge-trailing stroke, which will automatically put a little convex in it, with some regular sharpening. It is a very, very easy way to sharpen a knife (my favorite method). Just be careful not to get the angle too steep, or the pressure too heavy, which will round the edge.

I convexed the edge on my Country Cousin, which is noticeably thicker near the edge. I do like that one as such.

I just started using sandpaper on leather going 220 grit, 400 grit, 600 grit, then 800 or 1000 grit, and it puts such a beautiful mark free edged on knives, so thats how i will sharpen from now on.

There you go. You understand why I like the method so much. ;)
