The only answer you will get from Case on this question is: Chrome Vandium or Surgical Stainless steel. I asked Mike Dye and he said thats all Case will tell you. So maybe someone else here has some more information, I would like to know myself but also want to know where they got the info from, just for the heck of it.

Chrome-Vanadium is a good carbon steel. It does rust fairly easily, but it holds a good edge and is easy to sharpen. Take good care of it and it will take good care of you. It is the only steel I will buy from Case. If I could only get them to do the sowbelly stockman with bone handles and Cr-V blades....
