Has anyone had any problems with the blades on the case sowbelly rubbing each other and causing scratches (fairly deep ones) while you open and close it? Ive had the problem before with the large case antique green bone stockman doing this, but it seems that the sowbelly I have came scratched and seems to keep doing it as it is opened and closed. Ive noticed on the silver script sowbelly that I have that the blades seem a little large and off for the frame size. As you open, or close a blade they rub the one next to it causing some pretty nasty scratches. Has anyone had any problems like this with these, or is it just s fluke with mine?

I did talk to someone who deals with case knives extensively. I am told that this is more of a problem than not on the ones this person sees (I will mention no names as to be respectful tot hat person). I was also told that is more than just the sowbelly that tends to have these problems. Makes some sense when you think of what goes into fitting the blades into those akward closed positions, but then again, as difficult as it is some pull it off okay (or better than this).

I have 4 Case patterns with blades at opposing ends. 3 of the 4 show at least some blade rub. :( 1 of those is a sowbelly. I have also seen blade rubbing to some extent in Schrade, Camillus, and even Queen and Fight'n Rooster knives. Not quite as high a percentage as Case though. I like all of the knives from the above companies, I just wish, like most of us I'm sure, that they would go that little bit extra to "Finish" the product to be it's best.

Bill, if you look at allot of older knives, they once did!!! Now it is more about production numbers. When you consider that there is more "mass" production, less handwork going on you are going to have that.

One of the few exceptions I have seen is a scharde heritage green bone serpentine whittler I have from 1983, nice heavy blades, splitback and no rubbing!!!!

Rubbing is a small thing, but one you would hope gets attention. The thing that bothers me most is when the rubbing puts deep scratches that cannot be polished out, except if they were ground out!!! I tried to use a little rouge and brasso and a buffing wheel on a large case stockman and it didnt even dull the scratches!!! I then took a magnifying glass and could not believe the deep scratches!~!!
