Does anyone know about the stainless steel matt finished case blades? I have a buddy who has one in a lock back and a trapper. The blade is marked as stainless steel but it is not polished. The knives are '92 or '91 I think. They have curly maple scales.
At first I though they were CV but it's not.

thanks for any help

Need a photograph of the knife to be sure. However, if you read the tang stamp on all the blades and report your findings, that would suffice.

Case do make knives with brushed finished blades. They are the "work" knives. Not sure if that is what you are talking about.

found a 91 catalog the said the were "special blades" I'll see if I can get the guy who owns'em to send me the info

Prior to 1996, Case used a brushed finish on many but not all of their stainless steel pocket knife patterns. It was kind of a mixed bag, the plain bone handled modles and most wood or compostion models had brushed blades, while red bone and stag handled knives had mirror finished stainless.

Beginning as of 1996, the "standard" seems to be that all stainless knives were made with a polished finish except for the basic delrin and pakkawood working knives series. They have done some SFO knives in bone with the brushed finish blades however.

All stainless bladed Case pocket knives can be identified as stainless because the letters "SS" will be either after the pattern number or on the tang of one of the secondary blades, or both.

As to the curly maple handled pocket knives, they were all made in SS; the first series in 1989 had polished blades while later ones in 1991-1993 had brushed blades.

The brushed effect looks good on the Delrin and G10 handles but I wouldn't care for it on more intricate scales.

does anyone have any information on case whittlers; models 6308wh, 6383wh,as to which one would be the best edc? best made? they are close. they seem to be both 3.5'' closed. thinking about getting one. should i look at another brand or style. i like the whittler pattern. thanks.

My favorite of all Case patterns is the 83 whittler. The 08 is similar but smaller; it also does not have the pronounced swell center. Both good but the 83 is better in my opinion.

correction on my part. It's my buddy who has the catalog and he told me what they were called. I'll see if I can get some clarification.
