Case steel question

Yes. Case's carbon steel is called "CV" which is a variant of 1095 or 1086 with added chromium and vanadium.

Thanks. Is that the steel the they specifically referred to as CV?

Case didn't actually start stamping 'CV' with the pattern number on their non-stainless blades until sometime during the 1990s; hence their earlier carbon steel blades weren't necessarily known then as 'CV' steel. It's generally assumed the steel was the same CV steel as used today, but it's hard to be certain. A lot of small 'tweaks' in the recipe could've happened in the last 40+ years. Should still be pretty good, either way.

I believe for that time frame, the 1086 with chrome and vanadium is probably correct, and run not too hard either.

Yes.
Case Chrome Vanadium steel, often referred to as "CV" is an "alloy steel", not a "carbon steel".
If it were "Carbon Steel", it would not contain Chrome or Vanadium.
