I was looking at the spey blade (my least used blade) on a Case 6347SS and was wondering if I could use the dremel to turn it into a cap lifter? I have found the flat screwdriver/caplifter blades see way more action for me than a 3rd blade ever would. What has me concerned is how thin the blade is, there wouldn't be much thickness to the actual hook that lifts the caps off.

I suppose if it broke I could always turn the blade into an awl or something. Anyone ever tried this? Thoughts if this is a good/bad idea? Concerns? Critique? Let me have it!

*edit* I just realized this probably belongs in the Maintenance/tinkering/embellishment forum. Can it be moved by a Mod, or do I need to delete and create a new one over there?

Personally speaking, I wouldn't. The blade IS too thin and no doubt would snap off somewhere in the gullet after you redesign it. One of the great things about CASE knives is that they are for the most part excellent slicers, and that means thin blades.

Besides if you cut hooked gullet in the blade to open a cap, you would have a pretty small gullet with a thin point on it too boot. The awl is actually a better idea in my opinion, but still not ideal. There just isn't enough meat on those blades to remodel them into something else unless you are shortening the or regrinding a tip.
