I think it is not an original Case manufactured Barlow. I strongly suspect it to be an imposter. :o:)

Utica made Barlows for Case in the Tested and XX eras.

You can see the distinctive rounded or oval bolsters and bare end of Utica's pattern.
They got the stamps upside down though - musta sold cheap!:D

Tangs.

Utica also made them for Belknap and Schrade in that same WWII era!!

I have never see one with the Case Tested stamp. Is that stamp on both bolsters, hidden in the glare??

Also, all the Case barlows I've seen the bolster stamp was on the same side as the tang mark on the blade. It looks reversed on this one??

Odd indeed. I'm not ready to rule it out yet!
I'd love to CE and CF it. Can you get some better pictures?

The blade and handle profiles, including the kick areas, jive with Uticas.
Also the spring pin.
Hmmmmm?

I compared it in person next to my Utica made Kutmaster Barlow and other than the spear vs clip blades near identical. The stag looks very old and the Case markings are on what I call the Port side bolster and the Starboard is blank.

It could be a legitimately made knife, maybe from depressed financial times - dirty 30s??

Never seen one like this. At first glance I thought not real, but better photos of the tang stamp and bolsters would help.
The position of the pins is odd, the kick looks a bit strange and the bolsters looks like someone messed with them. Maybe re handled ?

Looking at some books and I think (?) the bolster stamping was used on the Founders Set knives.

Just a few things I noticed:

The A is not set inside the long tailed C on the knife in question. The E is completely different from Charlie's tang example. The S is not as long horizontally as Charlie's stamp. :o

I suppose that someone else could have contracted the knife in question, but, I still wonder about it. :o:)

Resized in photoshop:

Charlie's example resized and rotated:

The Case Tested knives are very often counterfeited, due to their higher values. :o

The long tail crowds the second X also. The stamp may be faked!
Nice work on the photoshopping, Rob!

Good looking knife, by the way. It looks like it has years of honest work behind it, and more years to go.
