Hi, Do any of you guys know what kind of stainless steel Case used in their tested razor edge knifes and how it compare to the tru sharp they use now. I don't know if it was 440a or 420hc or something else. Thanks

If anything, Case's current Tru-Sharp is a bit better for edge-holding. Don't know specifically if the 'Razor Edge' blades ('60s/'70's vintage, maybe a little later) was the same steel or not, as Tru-Sharp (420HC). But, it seems to be a little less durable at the edge (maybe *), based on the one or two examples I have (mid-70s vintage). Might be the same steel, but with different heat treat; I just don't know for sure.

* I haven't messed too much with the 'Razor Edge' knives I have, in terms of sharpening or exercising the edges. The blade/edge grinds of these earlier knives were somewhat thicker than most of Case's current grinds (very thin hollow), so that influences how 'sharp' the edges appear to be.

IIRC, Case claims that they have not changed the alloy.
