Hi:
what do you think of the Case/ Bose Slimline trapper and millnium trapper ,is it worthwhle project or overpriced ?

Other upscale collaboratons in traditional folders out there?

and do you like trdational folders anyone? Or only tactical ( I liek them but not as much as the old school styles).

thanks
Martin

The Case/Bose folders are WAY overpriced. Too bad too, because I would love to carry and use one.

Take a look at Queen Cutlery pocket knives. The blades are ATS34, they come in many patterns, and the fit and finish is superb. I picked up several pearl-scaled models for around $60.00 each. Great knives, and I feel dumb for just having recently discovered them.

I have both Case/Bose folders. I agree that they are way overpriced! The quality control on the second one I received caused me to send it back to Case for refinishing. I have heard the marketing hype that they are about half what Tony would charge for a similar knife. So what! What should determine the cost is what the company can produce the product for and then the profit. In this case, it seems that price was determined by this simplistic argument. I was/am waiting for two Bose that I have on order and decided to pick up the Case knives to complement the Bose knives when they arrive. Bad decision. I now wait for the customs to arrive! Dick

Professor,

A word of warning about Queen knives. Apparently only the main blade is ATS34 and any other blades are 440A. I recently bought a Schatt & Morgan Series IX Tear Drop Jack from AG Russell believing both blades to be ATS34 but they have subdequently confirmed that this is not so

. I have also been told by a Queen dealer that this year all blades are 440A as they found ATS34 too hard to work with. You can read more in my review of the Tear Drop.

thanks
The case/Bose folders impressed me with their execution and great design , but then the guy (at store) told me their prices . I never heard of new case selling that high. even Ats34 and bose name, still too much

OK, this has been one of my favorite topics lately. I never held a Case/Bose knife but they look beautiful. They are definitely overpriced though.
I recently bought a MooreMaker (MM) trapper with Carbon Steel blades. I've read that Queen makes the MM. Whatever, it is a big step up from Case, Shrade, etc. Cost a bit more though so the price increase actually bought me better quality.
I also recently bought a Henckels Trapper also with Carbon Steel blades (no SS for me thank you; these are users). Again, very nice quality, just a step below the MM.
As for the Queen and Schatt and Morgan lines, I once had a Queen Trapper in the Red Winterbottom Bone handle pattern. This was a gorgeous knife for the money. Alas, it has SS blades and I sent it back. They apparently use 420 SS which is probably the worst steel for a user. They no longer use ATS-34, not even in the main blades. Call them and they might be able to find you an older one.
Other brands to check out are German Eye, Hen and Rooster, and Bulldog.

I feel compelled to chime in here. I had the oppertunity to handle the Case/Bose 2000 trapper. No doubt, the asking price (at the time about $300) is alot of money. I will say however, that the fit and finish on the folder I was checking out was absolutly beautiful. The styling of a Bose knife, yet at a considerable reduced price. To me, the Case/Bose 2000 millenium trapper seemed well worth the price. The knife felt great in the hand, good solid weight and nicely balanced.

Just my $.02.
