hi all.
i have searched here and didn't find what i was looking for. though, i'm sure it's been covered, so forgive me. i hate being the rookie posting these types of threads, but here goes....

I have recently become enamored with the Case Tony Bose collab knives. I have spent a while googling, and i have some questions. why is there such a wide range in prices? for example, i can go to a dealer's site and look at knives for sale and i see a backpocket knife for ~$80, but most other knives are $300+....Why is this?

i do like the backpocket knives. many of the dealer sites are not very good at providing detail. i have heard that some of these knives come with stainless blades and some come with carbon blades. does anyone have a good resource for the carbon ones? (please PM me if not a bladeforum approved dealer site)

In general, i like single-blade knives. i have tried to find a listing of these collab knives, but even the Case site does not seem to have a full listing. maybe i am just not seeing it.

does anyone have a comprehensive listing?

thanks all.

There are Case knives built around Bose patterns, like the Backpokcet and Teardrop, that are just standard Case knives. Then there are the annual Case/Bose collaboration knives. These are a completely different thing. One pattern per year, with a few different handle materials. They are a premium quality production knife made with 154cm stainless blades, stainless bolsters/liners, and an overall quality that far exceeds the standard mainline Case offerings. They are as close to custom quality as you'll find from a production company.

Additionally - the Case/Bose Collaboration knives made prior to 2008, I believe, were ATS-34 steel and 154-CM steel thereafter.

Here's a listing of previous years;

1999 - Slimline Trapper
2000 - Millenium Trapper
2001 - Yukon
2002 - Gardener’s Knife
2003 - Dog Leg Jack
2004 - Muskrat
2005 - Locking Whittler
2006 - Cotton Sampler
2007 - Large Coke Bottle
2008 - Arkansas Hunter
2009 - Norfolk Whittler
2010 - Tribal Spear
2011 - Coffin Jack
2012 - Lanny's Clip
2013 - Wharncliffe Trapper
2014 - Wharncliffe whittler lockback

G2

There have also been re-issues of previous year models with Damascus blades. ;)

thanks very much for the list.

For the more expensive collaboration knives, Tony sends a completed, assembled knife and a complete set of milled parts
to Case for them to duplicate.

I learned that on here, and I think there's a long thread with the pics around. I'll link to it if I see it.

I have a 2011 ebony coffin jack, it is the best knife I've ever owned.

Tony Bose-
"The Case-Bose collaboration knives are very close to a custom knife with custom features. They have stainless steel bolsters and liners as well as a pinned on stainless shield. Its also relief pocket milled on the inside of the liners for the tang to rest in when closed so they won't be scratched.

When we decide what we are going to make i make 2 knives just alike. One is a finished knife for QC and the other is the same but can be taken apart. They take this knife apart and have a precision scan done on the parts. From this they make a program for an EDM wire cut machine. These cut the parts to within 2 ten thousands of an inch so what they end up with is very close to what I send them. The blades and springs are deep cryo heat treated ATS 34(later knives are 154CM) with high wear resistance and will cut for a long time before sharpening. I'm very proud of how well they make these. I would like to see every one going to work. Before anyone says too expensive I'll remind you that people will give 30 to 40 thousand dollars for a new car or truck and drive it every day. Try one. One more thing is that the annual collab. knives are made in small batches of 300 or so for each handle material.
And .. yes , they are as close to custom knife as you can get.

I've owned 3 Case/Bose Norfolks and all 3 of them were superb. Like a dang fool, I sold them all.

I need to get me another collab knife. Perhaps a Coffin Jack this time if I can find one. Something for me to keep an eye out for at the St. Louis show in a few weeks.
