I did a search but didn't really see what I was after.

I'm wanting to know if these knives are as good as the price. They seem to cost as much as some customs, and while they do use good steel, does the rest of the fit & finish justify it.

I know Bose knives command top dollar and am just wondering if these are worth a look as a more reasonable alternative.

Thanks!

They are worth the price, in my opinion, after handling several thousand knives of every ilk. Your mileage may vary.

Here's one of the latest threads on the 2013 Case-Bose Collaboration knife, http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...3-Case-Bose-Collaboration?highlight=case+bose.

I've bought a half dozen or so of the collabs over the years and have never felt like I paid too much. The 2013 in stag that I got just before Christmas this year is one of my favorites, along with the Norfolk pattern.

If you do an advanced search for Case+Bose you'll see a ton of posts from various sub forums.

They are worth it. If for some reason you don't like the one you get, you can easily get your $ back on it here.

There are two kinds of Case/Bose knives. There are the special collaborations that come out every year (this year it is a lock back whittler) and there are standard Bose patterns that are sold all the time (e.g. Bose Backpocket.) There are also Special Factory Orders (SFO) that use a yearly collaboration Bose pattern, plus the high end constuction, but offer something different, usually damascus blades (e.g. damscus pruner and Yukon Jack.)

They are all worth the money...but maybe not MSRP. For the collaborations, the price usually goes down once the next year's model comes out. However, if it's a hot knife and you want a specific cover, you may not get it.

Per "If for some reason you don't like the one you get, you can easily get your $ back on it here. " That depends upon the pattern and the price you paid for it and if you used it. They do not hold value like sebenzas. I've gotten some good deals on a Yukon Jack and Arkansas hunter. For the previous lock back whittler, you can get more than MSRP because it's still hot...probably why they brought it back with a different main blade.

Man - I figured you guys were going to say that. The Case/Bose Wharncliff Trapper was really calling my name. I found one new for less than $400 shipped so I ordered it. I have like 4 or 5 knives coming in now. My wife's gonna kill me. Trying to sell off a few to help mitigate the stink eye I know is coming. :) And Tim Britton is making me a double ended jack. Man o' man.

I was barely able to justify the 2012 Lanny's Clip @ $300, but am glad I saved up for it. It really is an extremely high quality knife. Seamless fit and finish closed, open and at the half stop.

The only way I can afford these collabs is to save up a long time for it. It has to really speak to me, as a design, as well. Just happened that the Lanny's Clip is the only one, so far that I just "had to have." I don't regret the price I paid, but do wish I had waited just a tiny bit little longer to get one a bit cheaper.

Wait til they show up after the pre-orders are filled out at the places that have them. They usually drop under MSRP. If it's a popular model, though, they might disappear quickly, or they may just hang around for a while waiting to be picked up.

The Lanny's Clip was one that disappeared fast. You never know...

edited to add: I've been looking at this year's Lockback Whittler, and I think I'm going to start saving my pennies!

The WT blade stock and springs are fairly thick but the blades are ground nice and thin. To get better fit and finish you'd have to pay about twice as much.
