Which has better steel? "Tru Sharp Surgical Steel" (Case) or "420 High Carbon Stainless" (Buck)?

I think the only Trapper they make right now is the wood-scaled one out of ROC.

thx - cpr

If such is the case, pun intended, I'd look for one of the Case Trappers, preferably with CV blades.

Make sure you handle it first, to ensure craftsmanship. Of course, that goes with any knife, though I'm really more careful with slippies.

If I only had $20.00 to spend, I would buy the Buck and it would be able to do anything I would need it to do. But if I had the extra money I would definately buy the Case. JMO.

I can't really say which steel is better.
I wonder if the 420 Buck uses in the USA production is the same as the 420 they have overseas.
Do they ship their heat treated 420 overseas to be made into knives?
Or is it the other way around?

I've had my ups and downs with Case's True Sharp.
Have some that take a good edge and hold it, while others have been sent in for blade replacement.

That being said, until there is a bone handled trapper from Buck (USA), I'm gonna stick with Case in the Buck Trapper vs. Case Trapper.
I would even accept the Dymondwood. I love those stockmans.

Well not to blow my own horn (This is my 1st post after hanging around for a while).Im a trapper and pelt many animals in a season.I have 2 older Case trappers that I use, a mini trapper and another larger one.Although a fine knife I gave the Buck trapper away.

I'm not sure about he Chinese Buck knives (and their trapper is currently made in China).

Buck 420HC (as found on the 301 Stockman) will hold an edge longer than Case Tru-Sharp stainless.
