[a website] had these on closeout so I threw one in on the last order not knowing what to expect. Received it today and very pleased with the knife. The aged bone looks very nice and the battle scene is nicely done, no cheap look to it. Finish is good, bolsters maybe could have been polished better but hard to be picky for under 40 bucks.

I like the look of the bone, but I wouldn't be able to get over that it states that world war 2 started in 1941 (it did for America, but it is a WORLD war after all.)

I do very much like the look of the trapper though, an would like to see them offer this type of bone on more patterns (I heard they might be making some Barlows soon? :D)

Mighty good point, hammered home by the most excellent book I'm reading right now, William Shirer's "Berlin Diary: The Journal of a Foreign Correspondent 1934-1941." Highly recommended for you history buffs. And pretty cheap in the Kindle edition.

And very cool knife, Augie!

Very nice knife Augie. The scene is well done.

Mark or Ryan, what would you consider to be the first year of WWII?
I've been studying and reading all I can about WWI in an attempt to learn how it affected WWII, and I'm going to have to go back further. I've never understood more than now how history is an unending river rather than a series of disconnected puddles. When I read about one thing, it leads me back to another. Now I I have to read about the Franco-Prussian war to understand WWI, and that's going to lead me back even further. I enjoy it, but it's hard to see the big picture sometimes.

Nice knife, but yes, shame about the date.

I think it's generally accepted that World War 2 began on 1st September 1939, when Germany invaded Poland, and France and Britain made a declaration of war.

I guess they could not fit US Involvement In WWII on the side. I would tend to agree with the September 1st, 1939 start date although Japan invaded China in 1937 so some may consider that a start date also.

1931 when the Japanese invaded Manchuria and began its expansion in Asia and the Pacific. Too many of us in the West have too long taken a Eurocentric and USA-centric view of WW2 and its genesis.

That said, I can see a USA manufacturer etching USA fighting soldiers on the scales using the dates from the USA declaring war to the USA accepting its enemies' surrender.

Indeed they did, they invaded Manchuria in 1931, and of course there was the Anschluss of 1938. I do think 1939 is the commonly accepted date for the commencement of the world conflict though

There were a number of pre WW2 conflicts - the Italian invasion of Ethiopia, the Spanish Civil war, the Japanese invasion of Russia and Mongolia, and the German invasion of Czechoslovakia, as well as those already mentioned.

I have no problem with a US manufacturer producing a knife commemorating US involvement in WW2, and they seem to have done a good job of it.

Thanks for the heads up. I just ordered the OIF and OEF Trappers. I'll either give them to friends or hold on to them a few years and use them as trade material. They're under $30 each now.
