Well, not too long ago I started a thread comparing Case's TruSharp SS vs their CV steel. I used a Seahorse Whittler with its beefy Wharncliffe main blade in SS vs a SwayBack Jack CV with Wharncliffe main blade.

Case's SS is not bad at all, but I found it to not hold an edge as well as their CV steel.

Well, I recently picked up a Case mini-Copperhead with Wharncliffe main blade in red stag. The Wharncliffe blade was closer in size & thickness to the SBJ's Wharny, so I thought it'd be a better comparison.

The mini-Copperhead's 3 1/8 vs the SBJ's 3 3/15". Their blades are off in length by a tad, but about the same in thickness.

Well, it really didn't matter as I still found the CV to be a better steel. By better, it just seemed that the CV held its edge longer, period. I cut multiple cuts of paper (Single page thickness as well as multiple pages thickness). I also cut thin & reg. cardboard, & other material. Yes, the TruSharp SS is be sharpened to an incredible sharpness, but so can the CV & the CV just plain held its edge longer.

Now, don't get me wrong, I have no problem using a Case with their TruSharp SS, but having been spoiled with using the newer steels, I do find myself wanting better edge holding.

Having said that, I still prefer my Canal Street Cutlery Cannitler in D2 & Case/Bose Dogleg Jack in ATS-34 to the Case in CV. However, I do like carrying the smaller SWJ now & then.
