Yesterday I joined the Case Collectors Club online and emailed Case for my membership # as I wanted to order the “new member” knife.

Within an hour, I got a call from Case thanking me for joining and promised to manually process my order as soon as my # was generated (takes a day or two).

We talked for about 15 minutes about the club and how I should bring the family to the factory next time I was in PA for a tour, etc.

Case is owned by Zippo and I was surprised at how cool these folks are for a relatively large company.

As an example, I love Buck knives, but I highly doubt a manager from Buck would call to thank me for joining a club for a whole $20 a year and chat about all things Buck.

I thought this was very cool in any case....

Very cool indeed. If you don't mind my asking, what is the "new member" knife?

That’s great to hear. I’ve been seriously considering joining their collector club. Thinking on the lifetime membership if I do.

I joined as a Life member probably 10 years ago. No regrets. Get lots of nice literature, several chances at exclusive knives every year. Rarely partake in those, but there have been a few that have caught my eye and it’s nice to have the option.

Same here. Thought I would try it for a year but unless they start making crap knives, I’ll do the lifetime soon.

Come on... a manager of the company calling a new member to say hi and explain what is in the package that I will be receiving, scanning a members only knife promo that ends in a couple of weeks so I can get in if I want (these are $40-80 knives BTW, not as if they are making $$$ off me)? Pretty crazy IMO.

I am an exec with a Fortune 500 tech company and I will be telling my team about this encounter. Customer first, but many seem to forget this....

When I started getting into serious knife 'accumulating', back in the early '90s, I joined the Case Collectors Club more or less on a whim. I'd been suscribed to a couple different knife/cutlery magazines at the time, and I think some CCC literature ended up in my mail at some point, offering signups for membership. A lifetime membership wasn't too expensive then, so I signed on as a Life Member. I still get their literature in the mail, to this day. To be honest, I haven't participated in their 'community' as such, but I'm still pretty impressed in how they represent themselves as a company, and I understand why they have so many dedicated & enthusiastic fans, with multiple generations of entire families getting involved. It's a slice of Americana that I don't seem to see very much of, anymore. I hope they carry on and continue to attract new fans.

Case has always been high on my list of knife manufacturers. If you get the chance to visit the Zippo - Case museum and factory store in Bradford, PA, you won't regret it.
Here's a couple of teasers.

Awesome. Thanks for posting this.

I will be going this year. Next time I stay in Niagara, ima gonna make the 90 min drive.:)

I've had many positive experiences with Case, from their honest-to-goodness lifetime warranty, to interaction with one of their execs who contacted me about an issue several years ago and with whom I've since had many excellent conversations about Case and their philosophy. A great American company, and long may they prosper.

I have a knife in for repair and so far had great communication with their customer service people. They have me feeling much better about the whole deal.

From when I was a Case Collector's Club member - this is my official, one-per-member, CCC Peanut.

And this is a matching Case Copperhead (a sadly discontinued pattern) from the same bone family, though purchased through a dealer, not directly from Case. Well technically I guess it's the same color, but the jigging is different. Still a nice knife.

Whoa! What's that canoe pattern above the entrance, Gary? Is that a Case gunboat? I'm surprised that a kind of out-of-the-mainstream pattern gets such a prominent place! Case just went up a couple of notches in this canoesseur's opinion!:thumbsup::cool:
