I was thingking about buying a stockman. Both offer simmular models and simular prices. I was wondering if anyone had any compliments or complaints on either. Any kind of information relateing either of these products is wanted. Thanks for any help,

Personally I like the Schrade Old Timmers, good price and I like the tool steel blades. Holds a good edge and easy to reshapen.

The only advantage of buying the case is you get a better selection of scales.[bone, stag, composite and in some cases MOP]

For looks and sense of "tradition", I would get the CASE.

For function, I would get the Shrade. They may not use high-tech steels, but easy to sharpen.

I agree with full tang! Case knives, all though very usable, are more of a collectable, and the Schrade's are bought as users. Case's quality is superior to Schrade's also. I'm sure your only talking $35 - $45, so I would go with the case.

What ever you do jmcbang... Good Luck!

I haven't used any of the Old Timer folders, but I do have two Case stockman patterns, the Moose 6375 and the smaller 63032. If you do opt for the Case I would suggest getting one with chrome vanadium blades, it holds a good edge and is easy to sharpen.
The only drawback is that for some reason Case does not offer this steel in the standard size stockman, only in the large moose pattern and two of the small stockman patterns.

You can't go wrong with either brand.
If you want a carbon blade go with the Schrade Old Timer.
If you want stainless steel choose either the Case or the Schrade Uncle Henry.
I own the Uncle Henry King Rancher and it's a great knife but I love the Case yellow knives.

I agree with others. I love my Case knives but I don't use them much. I do a little whittling now and then and the Old Timers are great for this. If you want something that cuts very well, get an Old Timer. If you want something that looks good and still cuts pretty good, get a Case.

The Schrade old timer blades will eventually tarnish/patina in time, probably no matter how well you take care of them. Especially if you sweat all day long at your work.
So if that thought bothers you, go with the Schrade uncle henry.

P.S.----I love the Stockman pattern!

I think if you want a more collectable, traditional knife, go with case. Schrade are definitally more for usage. But if I had to pick between the two I would go with Case. On the other hand, I recently got a Schatt& Morgan Stockman, and I think it is the best traditional pocket knife I have ever bought. Dfeinitally look at them before you buy anything.
THANKS!!!

Check out Queen too at this link: http://www.agrussell.com/queen/winterbottom.html. They look really interesting. The desciption posted there reads: "Queen re-introduces Red Winterbottom Bone, a 1950's bone pattern which has been one of their trademark handle materials. The five models are traditional, in pattern, construction and materials. The blades are made of 440A, a high carbon stainless cutlery steel hardened to 56-58 Rc and mirror polished. The handles are made with brass liners and nickel silver bolsters."

I like the chrome vanadium steel on the Case knives, but they usually only put it in their yellow Delrin handled knives. But, a couple of weeks ago, I found out that they now put the chrome vanadium blades in a bone handled Texas jack knife. Of course, I had to buy one since it was only about $34 and had really nice brown jig bone handles. Still working on getting that crappy factory edge off it though.

i have both a case and an old timer. i'm in love with both, so i guess that makes me a bigamist. my case has chrome vanadium steel, which holds a great edge, and my old timer has carbon steel, which holds a better edge. the case is a much more attractive knife, good for dressing up in addition to every-day use. the old timer, although it is a nice knife, is nowhere near as attractive.
which one you buy depends on what you're looking for. if you want a superb cutter, and don't mind a plain brown handle, get the old timer. if you want a great cutter (not quite as superb) with beautiful looks, get the case.

by the way, Danbo:
case offers chrome vanadium steel on many of their knives. handle material is completely independent of blade material.
