Ok, first of all, glad I stopped in. Never thought I'd want a slip joint, but the post by Blades Two showing his "Today's Eye Candy" really got me interested.

What is the difference between Case and W.R. Case and Sons?

I'm really leaning toward Case Limited Edition mint sets. What do you think of them? Especially with Peach Seed Jigged Caribbean Blue Bone handles.

My appetite has been wetted!

Case is simply what we call it for short, the full handle is the company name.

I wonder why, for your fist ones, that you are leaning towards the Mint Set knives rather than the standard production item.

The mint sets were a set of several different patterns, with engraved scrolled bolsters and a limited edition serial number etched onto the blade. 250 of each set were produced. But they are after all, just the same knife as the standard one.

This photo shows the Caribbean blue that you are interested in, both as the standard knife about $50 and the Mint Set knife.... up to $125. (and at the top a Mint Set Stockman). Note the special long tailed C and serial number blade etch on the mint set knives. Enlarged, it looks like this:

As I said, 250 of the mint sets were produced in a pretty display case, and of those 250, only about 10 or so sets will have been split up and the different knives sold separately as individuals. That makes them pretty rare knives! Hence the fact that they can fetch disproportionally high prices.

Cheers
Rod

I think more than 10 sets are split up. There's one advertiser in Knifeworld who says he alone splits 10 sets up.
